  1. Ginkgo theres only one species left.

  2. Amelanchier x grandiflora 'Autumn Brilliance' for three season's they grace my garden then display pale gray bark in contrast to the evergreens dark backdrop. In June the robins swarm about the trees consuming every berry they grow. With their white flowers and pale bark they really need a dark backdrop to show their best. Mine are usually golden with slight orange tones in autumn.

Stewartia monadelpha once more for the peeling, colorful cinnamon-brown bark but it also the lovely five petal, white flowers in summer when few trees bloom. The tree prefers some shade so does well with other trees.

The other ones I like for bark are the Parrotia persica (Persian Ironwood) that has great fall color and the slender Betula nigra (River Birch) but birch are prone to problems unless in a cool moist site.

  3. Caragana (Siberian peashrub)

    Turkish Cedar

    Weeping Willow

  4. Walnut, Apple, and Cherry.

all produce fruit. cherry and walnut are good building woods. Walnut trees are strong and fun for climbing, and I love cherry blossoms floating on the breeze. Willow and Japanese Maple are fourth and fifth on my list for aesthetics.
