  1. any, i've been trained in english (dressage, jumping, eventing, showing, saddleseat, ect) and i've ridden western... i dont really think there is much of a difference,  now when i do get to ride, i just hop on a horse and go, i dont show any more, and only feel like trail riding. i guess that's why it doesnt matter as much for me.

  2. I prefer English saddles because they are lightweight and show off more of the horse.  I don't show (except in a few little shows) but I trail ride a lot.  I ride gaited horses.

  3. oh i definetly love english. i do some western trail riding in the summer, but english is my passion : D

  4. i ride english, since my sport is jumping and showing. i like western sometimes, cause the saddle is comfortable and i have a horn to hang onto. and i like western cause you can jump a little in it! i jumped a small tree oxer in a western saddle, but i forgot to hang on to the horn and my stomach was hurting after that for a while. you should defiantly try english again! if your horse doesnt like it lunge him with the tack on so he gets use to it.

  5. Hunter, english!! tried western and english, jumping just stuck =D

  6. I've ridden extensively in both and in just about everything you can do in either.  My advice to everyone doing anything is to get a solid foundation in dressage and it will prepare you to become a true horseman/woman no matter what discipline you ultimately choose.

  7. Horses don't "hate" a riding type.

Maybe the English bit or saddle didn't fit as well?

  8. i love bareback.. the way you feel is great.. getting on and staying on is no picknick, don't get me wrong lol.. but you feel evevrything.. every move and mucsle. its like your sykick. you know a horse will take off before she/he does because you feel there muscles so you can stop it before it happens.. for saddles im in love with western. english has highlights.. you can jump and do dressage.. but western.. i can rope.. do barrels.. fast things. its more exciting to me i guess.

  9. English!!! I love jumping so much, it feels like you're flying!

  10. Mine is the complete opposite....I love english....tried a few lessons in Western and I hate it!

  11. i love english.

that what i started in, that's what i'll end in.

I have tried western, and it's okay... but i find that when i ride it there's less i haveto do. like it doesn't challenge me enough. besides, i'm a jumper, so prefer english just because that's what my discipline is in.

and i think that you (and everyone else who rides western) could really benefit from english lessons. i benefitted from doing western, and i'm sure you'd benefit from doing english.

i really think once you adjust to the different saddle and the different reining and everything that you'll really like it.

    i hope this helps ♥

  12. I love both, but I hate getting into those western saddles because they feel like La-Z-Boys compared to English saddles!! Then, when you get back into your English saddle, you're like... ugh... haha. I love saddling up Western when you just want to go for a trail ride, though. I ride Western when we don't really want to work.. my guys know that when the English saddle is on, we're going to do some jumping and flat work.

Also, Western saddles always hold a place in my heart because my old gelding and I used to barrel race.

  13. I like English riding...the saddles are more comfortable and I love showjumping - but that's only MY opinion

  14. Jumping all the way(english) so exciting!

  15. all riding is great for me. i have trained english hunter for about 11 years (and i love that) and would ride western just for pleasure. honestly it doesnt matter to me how im riding, as long as im on a horses back im happy. :-]

  16. Really for me, its both.

I love english, thats how I started. I focus on dressage now but I know how to jump (don't really due to a bad back, and hips, and knees!)

but western is fun, I LOVE trail riding, and speed events.....hahaha

its pretty much an even tie......

unless you throw in bareback, that has to be the best!

  17. I like bareback! lol

actually i ride both english and western.

i prefer western, but i think english is a lot of fun.

I love to barrel race (last year i got the best time in my county for barrel racing)

and i do performance for huntseat and western.

    I love to show! lol

  18. I grew up with English riding. I think it is more diciplined and doing things like dressage is great for your performance and posture.

    Jumping is also fun.

Western riding has always seemed to be more relaxed riding to me - great for hacking (trail riding) though. :-)

  19. Western,  for me:)

And you should give it another go, why not?

  20. i like western - ive always rode western and i love cuz im in control
