  6. Anything drawn by my daughter.  She is dyslexic and struggles with her maths at school because of it.  But she is very artistic and I especially love her pencil or charcoal drawings.  I am very proud of her as other parents will understand.

It was the first piece of art I saw in the flesh and liked.

  8. Starry Night by Van Gogh... because its beautiful.

Second only to the real thing.

"Boy bitten by a lizard", by the master Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.

  10. I've got two that I can't choose between:

Doubting Thomas by Caravaggio (he used working class people and tramps as models to portray Jesus and the apostles as normal people, he even once used a drowned prostitute as a model for the Virgin Mary), his people are so beautifully expressive!

The garden of delights by Hieronymus Bosch for the way it portrays the paranoia implanted by the church on the subject of h**l in order to keep people scared and thereby devoted to the church and continuing to buy indulgences.

Also ran:  The kiss by Gustav Klimt and almost any stormy sky by Turner.

  11. Dear Heart, there is no Courbet there, it is a blank page.

I like the poster of Jane Avril, by Toulouse-Lautrec, where she is about to kick through her skirts.  Because - I once saw it on tour from the Louvre, and it was posted at the top of a stair - I looked all over it for details (where and when) to go see the can-can dancers, until I realized what I must be looking at..... (I'd seen it in books, but they are right - seeing something for real is SO much more powerful!)

  12. My favorite painting is The Meeting on the Turret Stairs by Frederic William Burton.

I saw the original at the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin while on vacation and was instantly smitten.   The images online do not do it justice.. in person the painting is vivid and almost has a photo quality to it.

Also, Caravaggio's The Taking of Christ, also at the National Gallery.  Stunning.

  13. I like graffiti!

and Jean-Michel Basquiat one of my favorite artist in this style
