What is your first hockey memory? What is the first thing in your life you remember that relates to hockey?

I am curious to see what got you started with hockey.

I was born in 1991, so the earliest thing I can remember came sometime in 1998. I was 7 at the time it happened. I remember my mom asked me to watch Hockey Night in Canada with her. It was a Pittsburgh vs Toronto game. This is what got me to become a Leafs fan, as well as Jagr fan. (Jagr is my favourite player). I have loved hockey ever since that night.

So, what is your first memory?

All you have to do is say the year you were born in, and if possible, the year the memory occured in and the memory itself. I am only asking for the year you were born in because I would like to see all the eras/times in which people started with hockey. It should be interesting to see.

I am looking foward to see some great answers.

  1. I was 6 or 7 or 8 or something. I can't remember!

all i know is me and a teammate had a 2 on 0 breakaway.

and we skated down the ice and the goalie was all ready for the save but my teammate passed to me and I scored! It was my first goal and it was so awesome!

I didn't get alot of goals cuz I played D-Fence most of the time but I got alot of Assists.

  3. Born in 1992.

First memory was around when I was 7 or 8 years old, when I first learned how to play ice hockey.  I enjoyed it very much and I was pretty talented too.  However, I ended up quitting the sport and started playing tennis.  Then, when I was in 7th grade, I started playing again.  Presently, I'm a fan of watching the NHL, especially the Flyers.

  4. I was born in Jan. 86....my earliest hockey memory was the 91' Cup celebration. I don't remember much..just lost of excitment...

My favorite memory was meeting Mike Lange when I was 8 or 9...."Get in the Fast Lane Grandma...the bingo games ready to roll."

  5. I was born in 1976.  I was never into hockey until my mom took me to a Hartford Whalers game when I was 13.  It was a magical experience for me.  From then on I went to every Whalers game that I could get to....  right up until the Whalers left Hartford (it broke my heart).

  6. I was born in 1984, but didn't get exposure to Hockey until my first game which was when the Minnesota Wild were an expansion team.  They were playing an exhibition game at the Target Center against Phoenix.  Someone in the crowd threw a bottle of something at Jeremy Roenick during the game, the game stopped and Jeremy had to be restrained from beating the guy in the crowd up.

  7. I was born in 1991 too and my first memory of hockey is going to a rangers game at madison square garden, even though now I am a huge Flyers fan.  I was a rangers and devils fan when I lived in Connecticut from 1991-2000 and then we moved to Pennsylvania in 2001 and I have been a Flyers fan ever since.  I think I started playing hockey when I was about 7 or 8.

  13. I was born in '74.For some reason the first thing that sticks out in my head was listening to the Flyers play the Rags on the radio from the Spectrum and hearing all the whistling at Ron Duguay and thinking that was funny.Second was Bernie Parent getting a stick from a teammate in the eye and seeing him rip his mask off and skate to the Flyers bench.

***YO Jacob-I'm not opposed to hitting a 16 yr old punk either.jk

  14. I was born in 1971. My first memory of hockey was watching the 1980 winter Olympics with my parents. I remember they were both yelling and cheering as the U.S. men's hockey team won the gold medal. It wasn't until I was older that I realized how special that team was.

  15. My first memory of playing hockey was waiting in line after the match with all the other players for stitches and treatment for our injuries, hockey in the fifties was just an all out war of attrition, last man standing.BUT,at least you knew you were alive. When i finished playing ice hockey, i switched to roller rink hockey, same thing ,pitched battles and punch ups,we used to stick each other just for the laughs, now i teach hip hop, disco and extreme skating techniques.

I was born in '89 but sadly i really cant remember the Pens first two cups at all.  but idk i can just remember the Pens getting in the playoffs a lot in the 90s with Lemieux and Jagr and having great games against the Capitals in teh playoffs.  also i can remember the multiple overtime games in the playoffs and Kasparitis getting the game winner and Lemieux's return for retirement.

So obviously i am ecstatic about really remembering the Pens going to the Cup this year.  GO PENS

  21. I remember playing roller hockey all day in the summer and occasionally after school during the school year. The guy that got me into hockey was the NAHL player of the year in the 2004-2005 season, Pat Lee.

I use to play with a bunch of guys that played AA or AAA. A few were on U.S. select teams. Most of them went on to play Junior A or in the OHL. I started off against some extremely good hockey players.

  22. i was also born in 1991 i always knew my dad was a ranger fan and my cousin (who is the same age as me) was an islander fan but i never really watched the games. i think it was either 1997 or 1998 maybe when i first became a ranger fan and that is my first hockey memory. Me and my dad and my cousin were watching the ranger v. islander game and it was the first time i really watched it and got into it. it was a great game and me and my cousin were screaming at each other the whole time. the rangers won and me and my dad jumped up when ever they scored and high fived and stuff. we watched the game at my grandma and grandpa's house and they have a huge tv it takes up most of the wall so i watched my first game on the biggest tv i can think of. after that i became a die-hard fan and every time i would take a ride with my dad he would tell me stories about the rangers history and stuff
