I sometimes get goosebumps when an athlete excels above his expectations.

Mine was last night watching Steve Hooker win the pole-vault.

What is yours it doesn't have to be a Gold medal just someone who gave it their best and made you tingle when watching?

  1. THE OPENING CEREMONY

And when Asafa powell ran 9.69, it made the hair on my back stand up for ages

  2. When Nastia Liukin won gold in the individual all around.

  3. I have had several.

First of all, the most popular mentioned on here - Matthias Steiner and his gold medal win in the weight lifting. I almost did not watch it after they told us the story of his wife because I could not bear to watch it if he lost. His triumph was inspiring.

On the same level, Emma Snowsil's Triathlon win.

Anna Meares - Broken neck to Beijing Olympic Silver in 8 months.

Oksana Chusovitina - while we all talk endlessly about the young gymnasts having an advantage, this 33yo mother of one has slipped by without any accolades. She still competes to try and raise prize money for her sons leukemia treatments.

Lastly, the undiluted joy of Sally McLellan and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep when they WON Silver and Bronze. I am so over seeing people disappointed with that result when thousands of athletes go home without either and certainly would have appreciated them more.

  4. i have to agree with yahoo 101, that was a pretty sad moment

  5. When there has been a valiant fight for the gold and the national anthem is played at the medal ceremony and they are fighting back the tears through their smile...really touches me and I have teared up a couple of times with them.  Natalie Coughlin was one.

  6. Shawn Johnson

    Nastia Luikin

and of course MICHAEL PHELPS (this man is gorgeous) ha..

The girls deserved the medals they recieved-and better. Chinese have their way of twisting rules around on that one..

And Phelps is officially the greated olympian EVER. He's is amazing. He's inspired me to continue with my dreams however difficult they are.

  7. I look at the competitors statistics and worked out Steve Hooker was a real chance for a medal in the men's pole vault. I had a feeling and then he won the blooming gold one! Fabulous!

Also the strongest man in the world winning the weightlifting gold for Germany.

  8. Aussie Cyclist Anna Mears. Extremely badly injured in a cycling accident only 7 months ago and comes out and wins a silver medal!

(Oh, and I have watched a few replays of Grant Hacket in the 1500m and i still shout at him to swim faster!! He doesn't listen though...)

EDIT: Wow, tough crowd in here!

  9. There have been a few, but I enjoyed the Romanian woman

in the marathon, who decided; "the h**l with the pack, I'm

going for it".  She took the risk with about a third of the race

still remaining, ran her butt off, and held on for the gold.

  10. The German Weightlifter who won the Gold medal on the final lift after his wife passed away last year.

  11. the german guy winning the weightlifting

    best moment hands down
