  1. My gut feeling is that the climate is going to change regardless of what we do to prevent it. I think whether or not we started it, it has crossed into a self fueling process. Rising temperatures melt sea ice, less heat is reflected into space, more heat is absorbed by the oceans, more sea ice melts. At the same time Permafrost is melting, releasing tons of methane whiche is a greenhouse gas. As waters warm, more CO2 and methane bubbles out of seas and lakes. The planet is heating itself at this point and I really doubt we can stop it. It would take a dramatic plan for carbon sequestration to actually reduce CO2 levels and reducing emissions will not do that. One plan is an agressive reforestation plan, another is creating an enormous algae bloom in the deep ocean. The key is to create large volumes of plant life that will last a long time without decaying to draw CO2 out of the atmospere and keep it out. Of course there will be environmental side effects of these plans but, anything you do to combat global warming is in effect, terraforming. But you have to choose which is worse. Odds are nothing we do will have a significant effect in changing the course the planet is going down. So just get ready to adapt to a climate change. Yes, people will die, society will change but life will go on.

  2. GW is one of the major problems we have to work on. The peak of oil is another. These are contradictions. If we run out of cheep oil now, GW will start to take care of it's self. I hope we more swiftly to renewable energy in the USA and get off the oil from others. We have enough to supply our needs. In fact we could start exporting again.

  3. I think that everyone might eventually realize that they've been worrying for nothing

  4. Its an real issue, signs are already visible. Erratic rains, change of season, unexpected snowfalls, melting of glaciers.

It will increase food scaricity, avaibility of drinking water. Its horrific. we all are contributing. be cautious and contribute in efforts for spreading awareness and ur usage.

  5. Many people in other parts of the world will be working hard to prepare themselves to live without a lot of fossil fuels, and this will be driven partly by fear of global warming, partly by a need to preserve fossil fuels for  use later.

However, if projections of maximum temperature rise are met, global warming will become the major source of global warming, and run on no matter what we do after that. Call it if you wil, the self fuelling furnace phase of global warming, when temperature drives increased water vapour, and water vapour drives increased warming. We see CO2 rising even independent of human activity, arctic oceans bubbling off methane.

Once we tip into that self fuelling furnace stage, it might still be possible to undo the damage by putting outside our upper air a reflective barrier akin to what volcanoes do. We have never prov en we can do that.

Within 300 years, earth will then be anticipating a new ice age, when the oceans have warmed up enough to keep providing snowfall despite heavy world wide cloud cover.

  6. Almost every realigion and even scientists believe 2012 will be the year of doom. I am not religious but when that many people agree.... bit worried

    As far as major change.....

I don't think humans are the sole blame.

But we sure aren't helping and there are too

many selfish people out there that don't want

to stop using or give up using their "stuff"!

Then there is the "energy" industry

    And the govenment and politics!!

    I think we're screwed.

But we as individuals can do our part.

    I do.

  8. lets not tempt fate. if we stuff up this planet we wont have anywhere else to go. anyhow i don't make important decisions with my gut, i use my head.

  9. By the time everyone accepts it, it'll be too late...

  10. I believe it is a real threat, but not as bad as the worst scenarios.

I believe humans will do something to reduce the effects, but not enough and not in time.

I believe that we will all suffer some from Global warming, some will suffer more.

I believe that some good will come out of global warming, like more efficient cars, new sources of sustainable energy, and mainly more attention to the detrimental effects humans cause to the environment.

  11. It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

At some point we'll do something about it.  If we do it sooner, there will be less pain, later, more pain.  I can't predict when we'll com to our senses.
