  1. homeless people are an permanent feature like poverty, joblessness and crime in capitalists countries.  capitalism produces classes of people and the homeless are the disenfranchised.

  2. I generally despise them.  Not all of them.  The ones who are homeless because they are truly deranged and cant get help had no real control over it....I hate the ones that are just lazy, and probably arent really homeless, just beg for money because they're worthless.... stand in intersections with their hand out...

  3. A society's worth is measured in how it treats its lowest class of citizens.

I form opinons on individuals, not on groups of people who share a common characteristic.

  4. I kind of agree with qpistols opinion.

The homeless run the gamit as does society in general. The con man with the Italian bike to the person with mental health issues.

I have been homeless, gee, two whole weeks.  Homeless does not mean broke. I had a job, a bank account and a car.  I lived in my car.  Why I was homeless is another story. It is a strange feeling even with means to have no place to keep your stuff, or lay your head.

  5. I think it is 50-50.  50% of people who are homeless, are in a very desparate situation due to economics.  Loss of a house, job, etc., no place to go........The other 50% are lazy.  They can make a few hundred $$ a day standing on a corner with a sign, "Will work for whatever......"  Day in and day out, you see the same people at their "job".  They aparently "live" someplace because they have clean clothes and are not filthy dirty.  I believe there is always a way out of any situation if you want to really get out.

  6. It could happen to anyone.

  7. My honest opinion is that most of them are homeless by their own doing ... either drugs or alcohol.  I also actually met someone once who lived in an apartment in a very tony suburb of Chicago, but only pretended to be homeless because he said he made a lot of money that way.  He had a spot in front of a very busy downtown Chicago office building and said I wouldn't believe how much money he makes in a day doing that ... tax-free too!  He also said that people would constantly throw their business cards into his jar and tell him to call them about a job and many people would bring him lunch from some of the best restaurants and delis in the city.  He even showed me his homeless person sign.  He and I got off at the same subway stop and I watched him unlock an expensive Italian racing bike from the bike rack and ride off into the sunset.  From that day on, I have distrusted homeless people and can't bring myself to give them anything.

  8. There are some who are homeless because they choose that "lifestyle"..however I would say that most are homeless because of economic woes..once you lose your home, it is quite difficult to get all the money you need to find another place to live. Many jobs pay minimum wage, most people in todays world live paycheck to paycheck...someone very near and dear to me became homeless through some incorrect choices and was homeless when he passed away...it is quite difficult for me to see homeless people now knowing in my heart that most can be prevented.

  9. I would like to make sure our society takes care of them.  It says a lot about our people as a culture if we can take care of our own; those who can not take care of themselves.  There are many reasons for homelessness.  Some people need help and will take it, and some do not want it.  Everyone is a human being and deserves help if they want it.  Some people will never accept help. We need to look after each other.  I come from a humanitarian country.  I would like to say I come from a humanitarian world, but this clearly is not the case.

  10. I work for a railroad, so I see a lot of them. They never ask for anything except information on where they are and where they need to go. I have the strong impression that many are not the victims of misfortune. They simply don't fit in a 9 to 5 society, due to mental condition or choice, and prefer to live on the fringes of society so as not to get too involved. I've have yet to get the impression of resentment, or a attitude that the world owes them something. But maybe the people I encounter are different than the homeless in a large city. I don't know.

  11. a lot of them are to be mistrusted but not all. everyone has herd the stories of people who aren't actually homeless and we've all encountered the alcoholic homeless person. its horrible going to other countries with large amounts of homeless people because giving them money is useless because they will probably be forced to give up the money. they only way to really help homeless people who are genuine is to donate to organization that provide food and shelter.

  12. I agree with Double_D.  You cannot judge a whole group of people, without knowing them individuallly.

  13. i think they should try to get a job, i mean they already have programs that help them to get a better life, why dont they take  advantage of it

  14. People are people.

Owning a home doesn't necessarily make you a better person.

  15. they are a nomadic sub-sect of society that will always exist because some people just don't fit in with the "norm".
