Men are naturally attracted to youth and beauty. 5. Humankind's core preferences and desires were hammered out long, long ago, a hundred thousand years or more, in the legendary Environment of Evolutionary Adaptation, or E.E.A., also known as the ancestral environment, also known as the Stone Age, and they have not changed appreciably since then, nor are they likely to change in the future.

In sum: Higgamus, hoggamus, Pygmalionus, Playboy magazine, eternitas. Hard-core evolutionary psychology types go to extremes to argue in favor of the yawning chasm that separates the innate desires of women and men. They declare ringing confirmation for their theories even in the face of feeble and amusingly contradictory data. For example: Among the cardinal principles of the evo-psycho set is that men are by nature more polygamous than women are, and much more accepting of casual, even anonymous, s*x. Men can't help themselves, they say: they are always hungry for s*x, bodies.

  1. You additional information under your question focuses almost totally on men, yet your question asks about both men and women(?).

Men are primarily motivated to have s*x.  They are that way naturally  They, at least the "good" ones, want a relationship with a woman (usually) too. Most enjoy the affections and comfort of a woman.  Men have a tough time with "strong women" who can occasionally or often get rather castrating, leading to rejection of the woman in one way or another.

Women usually want primarily a relationship first, then s*x, but definitely s*x too (they are far more sexual than they usually seek to appear).  Women want a man who is a protector and defender, basically, though many deny it.  If this is not so, why do they not seek out weak men?  Women through the years were forced, more or less, into a position of near slavery to men in society, which caused them to develop their verbal skills (as an alternative to physical force), as well as a skillful  capacity for deception.

Re s*x: It is a strong biological drive than can be addicting because of the intense pleasure possible.  It is best engages in in a monogamous relationship that includes commitment and genuine affection.  Current society is going nuts over s*x.

Darwin--in the absence of solid evidence (it claims to be a science, after all), I don't believe in evolution.  I allow for its possibility, but I don't trust the theory, which I believe is a rather subconscious attempt to avoid, at least in America, the Judeo-Christian concept of a personal God and the idea of sin.  You wrote above: "Humankind's core preferences and desires were hammered out long, long ago, a hundred thousand years or more, in the legendary Environment of Evolutionary Adaptation."  Odd that in such a long time, evolution (assuming it is true) hasn't effected any changes!

  2. Fair enough. I want to have s*x with every good looking woman I meet. My wife wants me to be monogamous. We struck a balance--I don't have outside the marriage s*x and she doesn't cry. That seems to work.

  3. As a 47yr old man, I can give you a informal response.

First, attraction does not have to lead to actions, ie: I have been attracted to many a woman, but I have not had sexual relations with any I was not married to. Not even touching closely related to sexual relations.

Yes I looked at the pictures sometimes, but really received nothing from the pictures..

The young beauties I see now remind me so much of my own daughters, I do not get excited over them, and frankly I get a bit disappointed that they are using their bodies to attract men, and not seeing them selfs as the wonderful worthwhile person they are rather then a s*x object.

In sum: strong men are those who have control over their passions and do not dwell on improper sexual attractions which, if acted upon will cause pain and suffering to them selfs and those they love.

Is this what your question was fishing for? It is what I have to offer.
