What is your interpretation of my quote?

Would you tell me how you would interpret the following quote of mine? Thank you in advance.

"Old wounds never heal, they remain open until death."

Some things are so painful that there is no getting over them, no matter how long you live.

I believe that it means that if you don't forgive yourself and others, the wounds(which are the thing we have to forgive) will be open until death.  Meaning, some people never forgive and they die with their wounds.

obviously if they remain wounds they have not healed… scars on the other hand even crippling ones tell a happier story… have never had a wound that has not mainly healed… even the ones we pick at heal to some extent eventually…

Some "hurts", sad things etc, will go with you to your grave because you will never forget them. Some things/memories are so painful to think about that the only way they will disappear forever is in death...

certainly if the old wounds were opened up further and cleaned out,

then they would be fresh wounds again,

and with mindful awareness

to allow for closure and recovery from the wound,

voila! ~ all better.

my interpretation is that you arent able to move on and that you dont think you will be able to.

Basically if wrong was done to you (significantly), you will carry that pain (hurt) with you for the rest of your life. Whether we forgive the person or not, the pain will still be there. The wounds you speak of are like memories, they never go away.

But as a contradiction, I think wounds remain open only if we let them.
