  1. Romans 13:1-7.  This passage basically claims that all governments are ordained by God, and whatever the government edicts is God's will.

    I see this cited all the time when conservative Christians defend current laws (like the death penalty).  Funny, though - I've never seen it invoked to defend Roe v. Wade.

    I have also never heard a convincing reconciliation of this verse with all of the evil government regimes that have emerged over the years - think Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and any of hundreds of others throughout history that have been responsible for horrible atrocities.


  2. I haven't read the whole bible (about half..),and i definitely don't remember any SPECIFIC verses, but I did start reading the books left out of the bible.. (i believe its called the Apocrypha?), and some of them were pretttty nasty. Its an interesting read. I started with the books of Adam and Eve and i can definitely see why they were left out... Verrrryyy interesting for anyone, whether religious or not, when you can clearly see the reason they were hidden away. There were some very dark/sexist/racist comments in them for suree.
