A lot of people seem to think it is impossible... what do you think? I am moving out at the end of this month and working all summer. When school starts I will have school, sports, and work. I have a studio apartment so the rent is cheap and i shouldn't use too much electricity.

  1. I think that if you really want this, have a good paying job, and are realistic about everything like where you live and the things you do, like energy and stuff, you should be great on your own. Anything is possible, expecially a 17 year old living on their own. Getting out there this young might be hard, but you sound like you have a nice job, and you can do it.

  2. I moved out of my house when I was 17.  I paid for everything on my own; worked full time and went to school full time.  It wasn't easy, it was actually really frustrating at times.  I've lived on my own ever since then.  I even paid for my full college tuition without loans, grants, or scholarships.  You'll love it or hate it at times.  But it's really up to you to make it work.  Be smart with your money.

  3. if you're going to go it alone, you might make it with a lot of pre-planning and realistic budgeting..... whatever else you do, don't depend on a 'roommate' to help with bills and rent... you'll just get screwed over.... if you cannot do it alone, you can't do it.... it's that simple..... all those things they listed up there, insurances, etc are for real.... what happens if you break your wrist in a fall on the basketball court?.... just a simple thing.... but... ruin for you if you're not covered..... six weeks out of work and it's all over, kiddo.... think about it.... those of us who are older and set in our homes and jobs are just as liable to get the screws in the same ways.... it's harder when you're young and really don't understand it all.....

please be mature about this and think it over sixty different ways before you make a move... ok?... good luck to you if you do go...............

  4. its possible, but your not going to have anything and not the life to live

  5. I moved out of home when I was 17. As long as you can earn enough to pay for what you need, I don't see why you shouldn't do it. You aren't likely to have enough money to pay for luxuries but you'll appreciate them more when you can afford them. Go over your budget very carefully, get an adult or someone who already lives on their own to help you make a list of the things you'll have to pay for and figure out the cheapest way to get them. It's easy to overlook some things or underestimate what they cost. Short list of basics; Rent, utilities, food, transportation, clothes. What about dental care or doctors? Sports equipment? If at all possible, have yourself an emergency fund, enough to get you through a month or two in case something happens and you can't work or you have to move.

  6. well if they are working then i think it would be about the same as an 18 year old living on their own.

i was one of the youngest kids in my grade and if i had move dout after i graduated i would have been 17.

i waited until schools tarted to move out, so i was like 2 months into being 18.

but that was into the dorms so i dunno if that counts!

but anyways.. it's not impossible.. as long as you have a job that pays you enough to pay your bills and you make paying bills your number one priority and are responsible enough to maintain your job then you will have no problems :).

but, just to note, sometimes there are "surprise" charges.. for one you need groceries which are spendy.  some places you need to pay for water, or garbage and/or lawn care.  then there's electricity and gas.  whatever you spend to get around (gas or bus tickets or whatever).  if you have a cat or dog, their food and expenses.  electricity can add up.  i dunno.. budget it out what it would be and make sure you can afford it and if you can then you will be just fine.

  7. if you can swing it financially ....go for it.

    Good luck.

  8. I've been on my own since the age of 13..it worked for me

  9. and what about

    food

    clothes

    gas

    car insurance

    health insurance

    entertainment

    appliances

    furniture

    toothpaste and brush

    shampoo/ conditioner

    soap

a clothes washer or money for the Laundromat

anything I left out here folks? I'm sure there is

  10. i know how u feel about moving out and living on ur own, its such a independent feeling. i am 17 myself and i had an experience and what i thought was glitter was really not. i had to work while going to school, pay the bills, grocery. it was then that i realize that moving out and living on my own was not as rewarding as i thought. but i wish u good luck

  11. my mom did it. my sisters did it. you can do it. besides...if worse comes to worse im sure you can just move back home.

  12. tuf, definitly. impossible, nope.

in all honesty, sports may have to go. given the crazy schedule of most sports these days, a job may not be flexible enough to work around it.

However, if you can save enough money this summer to pay for 4 months of bills then you could prob do it
