  1. I think home schooling has its pros and cons.

    Pros:

    1. an academic curriculum that parents agree on

    2. more indiividual attention to a students need

3.no rush to get to school in the morning

    4. protection from school ground realities such as bullying, name-calling, fights, popularity contests, etc

    Cons:

    1. lack of socializing with other students

    2. less exposure to other ways of teaching

    3. financial burdens of parents making the sacrifice to homeschool

  2. If done correctly, homeschooling can be extremely beneficial.  Paladin is correct - it does take work on both the parts of the parents and the student - but it can be very, very good.

If the parent does not put the necessary time or effort into it, it can be bad, but that is true with anything.  If a parent doesn't put time or effort into parenting, parenting itself can be bad.

But for the thousands and thousands of families that are committed to homeschooling their kids (and the thousands and thousands of homeschooled kids that are committed to learning and growing), homeschooling can be a very beneficial thing indeed.

  3. my opinion about home schooling is that it isn't  the real thing as being in school with alot of friend ,kids around you .

i disgree because it not going to be the same being with your friends and learning new things ,.

school is about growing up ,  school  make you prepare  for the  real word getting a jod ,go after your goal ..

    .

  4. I did homeschooling for a few years and I thought it was AWESOME. I developed a great skill set in the business world that helped me get the great job I have today.

However, I don't care for exams, so I went back to real school (in 10th grade) because I thought it would be easier to get into college by just going through HS. -Being who I am I had no desire to take a test to get a HS degree.

Honestly, the only thing you have to take care of to counterbalance the homeschooling is to make sure you have a way to interact with other kids your own age. That's the only thing I missed when I did homeschooling, but then I was a bit of a loner back then, so I don't know if it would have made much of a difference. Church settings work to- they just have to socialize a bit.

I have to say I really enjoyed the freedom to be able to research the things that I was interested in...

My personal opinion is that homeschooling is better for children who are smart rather than the average child. This is because schools tend to cater towards the lowest denominator of the children, so the smarted kids get left out. I was in a few honors classes and I was SO BORED that I ended up not doing well in the school setting, whereas I thrived on creating my own projects and the faster pace my mom set for me.

    - I feel very strongly about this...

--->I should add something I remember my mom telling me when she was doing research about whether to homeschool me. --> You HAVE to know your child. The most obvious example I can think of is that if you have a popular-type child who thrives on attention from other kids, homeschooling would NOT be a good option.

And finally, you have to ask the kid if they would be interested in it or not...

  5. Well homeschooling is a double edged sword one: more attention from the teacher's and you'll learn alittle more and feel more confident to give and accept answers but you miss the social factor for those who find it important

  6. If the parent does the job right, it could be wonderful for the child.  The child would get individual care and would be kept away from their more negative peers.  By 'negative peers', I mean the drug addicts, thugs, and all-around idiots.

  7. if done right, it can be very beneficial for the students, but the parents have to put a lot of work into setting it up right.

As a public school teacher myself, much of the socializing that students are exposed to hurts them more than helps them.  If a lack of socializing is the only thing that a prospective home schooling parent is worried about, there are all kinds of activities out there to look into

  8. I think it isn't necessarily the best idea out there.  Children need socialization skills.  Yet, on the other hand, kids learn bad and cruel things from other kids, mostly from school...
