What is your opinion about this new law of helmet wearing in chennai?

its Rs. 450 crores business in the state. Many people survive in this business. Two wheelers are the sufferers. The law is implemented on June 1 in all major cities, and from july 1 its compulsory thro out the state.

This law should have been there long back and now after it has come it should never be scrapped.



I'm saying all this out of my personal experience.  One of my family member had an head injury few years back, which could have been avoided if he had worn a helmet. Its now 7 years and still that person and our family is suffering from that accident.

Nobody should go through all those sufferings.

Please wear your helmet for you and your family.

I feel it is better to get killed once for all in a road accident, instead of suffering every day by wearing helmets. After introducing the rule in Bangalore, I have stopped raiding in my two wheeler. Being bald and aged at 53 I only know the suffering of wearing a helmet, during summer. I can't imagine driving at Chennai.

During past 25 years , at least 5-6 times the Governments have implemented the law, to be taken back later. I do accept the facts and figures provided by the Police departments and  Neurologists. The fatal rate have actually come down. But, what I do not understand is, why the Government make it mandatory only in selected Cities, not all over the State ? are they concerned about only the Urban population ?

Wearing is helmet while riding is good. I am from Kolkata and here it is mandatory for both the driver and pillion rider since long. We have got used to it. Once I was saved because of using helmet. I met an accident while riding at 90 KMPH speed in a highway. If I would not have the helmet that day I would not be able to write this reply. I never go out riding two wheeler without a helmet.

However I do not understand why government need to make it mandatory !! Why traffic police is having the power of giving punishment for not wearing helmet. We do not undertake many safety measures in our daily life that does give the government to impose fine on us.

Like if I do not lock my home while going out will police impose fine !!

I know many people who have not given vaccine to their kids - are government imposing fine on them !

Why only the motor cycle riders  !! Why can not government leave it on us !!
