What is your opinion of corporal punishment of adult criminals ?

This is my humble opinion, in today's society, criminals are not detured from commiting more crimes.  If they receive a five year senence, lets say for car theft, here in California, they will serve half that time on good behavior.  The also get work time credited towards their sentnce meaning they can work while in prison and maybe take 6 months off the remaning 2 1/2 year giving them only two years.  If they ran from the cops and a pursuit ensued during this initail arrest, not only did they endanger the lives of the officers but also the public.  Lets say they receive a year for fleeing from the cops. You would think they would add the year to the original five years giving that person six years but instead they serve that year concurent meaning they serve that year within the five years.  Since they will only be doing 2 years of the the five, the 1 year for fleeing will fall within those two years and they never recieved any addtional time for flee.  So whats the deturent for fleeing next time, NONE!!  If you only do 1/3 of your sentenced time, whats the deturent, NONE!!!  

Sure, for you and me, honest hard working people with lives, family, job, home and a heck of a lot to lose this would be devisating...but not to these career criminals who have NOTHING to lose.  They DON"T CARE if they go to prison and if you think they do, you are living in a dream world.  I know if a person received the whole five years pluse the one year, I bet they will think twice about doing the same crime again. Sure not all criminals but the younger ones might.

In today's world, harden criminals have no respect for anything let alone a person's life and will be willing to take a persons life, friend, loved one, brother, son simply for being on the wrong side of the street, wearing the wrong color or wanting their new Escalade to go joy riding in.

These pathic excuse of the human race deserve NOTHING!!!  If you think this is to harsh, next time you hug a loved one, think about that being the last time you see that loved one and later that day they get killed becuase they were robbed they didn't give up their wallet or purse fast enough.  You then tell me that when the person that cold bloodly killed your loved one and took him/her away from you forever, you still think that person should get special treatment, class on anger managment and be able to walk the streets again becuase you think these pethic people made one bad choice and should be given a second chance.  

It's easy to sit back in your nice chair, drink your coffee while surfing the web and pass judgement but until you have seen the life and walked among these criminals.....think twice about saying something you know NOTHING about.

SERIAL KILLERS----AUTOMATICALLY PUT TO DEATH WITHIN HRS OF THE SENTENCING

DRUG DEALERS----SHOULD BE TRANSFERRED TO A REMOTE PLACE OF SOLITUDE FOR 20YRS, NO ACCESS TO THE REAL WORLD

I live in Texas, so you obviously know that we use the death penalty often.  I look at it from two sides.  One, if someone in my family were (God forbid) a victim of a homicide, I would put the needle in their arm myself.  Two, I am in Law Enforcement, and I am not seeing the death penalty as a deterrent to violent crime.  A lot of violent crimes are "heat of the moment", and people are not thinking of the consequences.  So why have it?  I would like to think our culture and society can move past "an eye for an eye".

Corporal Punishment= Physical Punishment?

Are you referring to Chain gangs, Road crew, Rock Busters etc?

When one is sentenced to a prison it is said to be for xx years at hard labor.

The hardest labor inmates have nowadays is getting out of bed to eat breakfast.
