What is your opinion of dance teams for kids?

At my daughter's ballet studio, a child can audition for the elite dance team and participate in competitions. It also costs the parent more money to purchase professional shoes, sometimes travel, pay competition fees, and extra costumes.

What is your experience with a dance team, what age is your child, and how did it effect your family life.

Our situation, we have an infant and a four and a half year old who was invited to join the team. Off the top of my head, it would be a plus that she'll be in a class with other girls of her ability and maturity level. (no cryers, or girls just running around) Negative: I'm afraid it will be hard witht he infant....

  1. well my experience with competitive dance has been a great one. it is more money for costumes, shoes, comp fees, etc. but it is totally worth it and was probably the best years of my life. i made so many friends and had so much fun. it affected my family life a lot because dance pretty much was our lives for a while. but again, it is totally worth it if you are really serious about dancing. traveling usually isn't very far either. so all in all, if you want your daughter to start getting serious about dance already at 4 years old then you should do it!

  2. Wow 4 1/2? That is really young. She must be really good. Congrats for her. :D

I just joined competition team this year, I haven't participated in any competitions yet, but so far it is really fun. We have two 6 year olds on my team. It is more money, but if she likes it, it is totally worth it.

I think the baby will be fine as long as you give him/her enough attention too. Good luck to you and your daughter!
