  1. First of all, the DH has not been around for 100 years. It's been around since 1973 so a removal of it would actually be going back towards the rules that were originally established. I personally hate the DH. It takes the some of the fun and a lot of the strategy out of the game. It all but eliminates pinch hitting, double switches, sacrifice bunts, etc. It also allows a team to put a high quality hitter into the lineup without having to consider the possible defensive liability the he could be (Frank Thomas anyone?). Unfortunately it's pretty much here to stay in this current format. Removing it from the AL or implementing it in the NL is bound to p**s off a chunk of fans either way so there's no way anything is gonna be done with it any time soon.

  2. replacing an automatic out with the best hitter on your team, yeah thats fair.

  3. i think they should let both leagues have the d.h. rule . unless you are a cubs fan with zambrano. there isnt much hope for a teams pitcher.

  4. It's ruined baseball. The pitchers know they can throw at a batter and only get fined and suspended. It's taken much of the strategy out of the game.

It's allowed over-the-hill players to hang on (Gary Sheffield) as designated hitters.

  5. bethie's right about one thing. It's an OLD argument. Too many people regurgitating what someone told them instead of thinking things through, just like the A-Rod on steroids debate. Nothing's been proven, Canseco's book didn't implicate him; the part where he tried was refuted by the man who supposedly supplied him.

Craig had the right idea. So many sheep, so little thought. I'm outta here.

"Everyone in the world disagrees with me, including some managers, but I think managing in the American League is much more difficult for that very reason (having the designated hitter). In the National League, my situation is dictated for me. If I'm behind in the game, I've got to pinch hit. I've got to take my pitcher out. In the American League, you have to zero in. You have to know exactly when to take them out of there. In the National League, that's done for you." - Jim Leyland

Strategy is all about WHEN you do something, not if. You're forced to make moves in the NL; the circumstances decide that for you.

  6. I like the old arguement against it; that it takes some of the strategy out of the game when the DH is used.

  7. i think the dh rule is good but i think pitchers should decide if they want to bat or be DH'ed now if i was a pitcher i would be DH ed because i cant bat. so it all depends on who you ask.

  8. i like the d.h. rule, im tired of people trying to change rules that have existed in baseball for 100 years

  9. I've had enough of AL pitchers getting hurt batting or running the bases.

Just end this nonsense and use the DH in the National League too

  10. No DH.  Frankly, to me, baseball is more interesting when the game is not a flat-out slugfest.  And I do like the strategy it brings to the game.

What are the arguments for it anyway?  Except maybe the possibility of taking out a pitcher before he's really done to get a pinch hitter.
