  1. waste of money

  2. A wonderful concept for world peace except that it is costly and corrupt and therefore ineffective.  NYC would be very pleased if it all moved to Brussels and stopped tying up traffic there.

  3. I think we Americans thought a "UN" would be great until now we realize that we are the only ones funding it yet have been removed from any actual power of it. I think it is time to revamp it or disolve it altogether.

  4. I hope the previous answerers of this question realise how deeply biased they are. You have clearly all been watching a lot of loudmouthed conservative CNN tv shows. Consider switching off your tv and reading a book by someone who thinks differently than you or you'll be ignorant for the rest of your lives.

If there were no UN, no grand forum for international dialogue, there would be a lot more angry, frustrated governments. When governments get frustrated, they resort to war.

One of its greatest strengths is in its ability to harness diversity at the highest level of power. If there was no UN, governments like the US and Russia would be able to invade countries left and right. Instead, they are kept in check by the UN Security Council. Other states are given a chance to voice their disapproval.

Think about when you are in your car and someone cuts you off. You get so angry you might try to kill that person. Why? Because you have no one around you to complain to. Humans need friends to sympathise and enemies to blame in the same place or they will spring into violence.

Yes, there is corruption at the UN, just like in every government. Is there no corruption or money wasted in US governments?

You should also remember how the UN was founded. Those who say that NOW things are difficult for the US at the Security Council don't realise that the US, one of the chief architects of the UN charter, needed to find a mutually agreeable solution. If you really think that the US should "go it alone" in the world, you are a fool, you know nothing about international relations and you should shut up.

To those of you who think the UN is a big drag on the federal budget, perhaps you should consider how much the Iraq war is costing and ask yourself which is more useful: that war or membership in the UN. I would pay for international legitimacy over reduced national and international security any day.

  5. There will be a little little little more chaos. That's all. Practically UN is doing nothing at all, except publishing lots of resolutions. What they do more? mmm... right now nothing. Why because Security Council is so divided it is impossible to make decisions.  There was a few  peace keeping operations (some of them was totally unsuccessful). UN would be a World organization if  it not be so divided - but it is nearly impossible.

  6. the UN was made sometime during the world wars and was made to prevent any other wars like the world wars. its there to decide what to do about problems in the world that many countries may disagree on like sub-Saharan Africa is a good example. china doesn't want to USA to be there helping people. but we want to help so therefore since there was a problem the UN fixed it through votes and stuff like that

  7. The UN makes resolutions, then does nothing to enforce them.  So the USA has to foot the bill and do the enforcing and be called the bad guy for it.  The UN is a corrupt waste of money.  The world would be much better off without it.  They refuse to send their "peacekeepers" to places that might be too dangerous, in other words, to places that actually need peacekeepers.  The oil for food under the table deals were just the tip of the iceberg.  The UN is full of hot air.  They are a laughing stock.

  8. one word freedome.the un is just another way for the gov.to run the world.this gov.is very evil.what they are is legal gangsters.the mob.a cult.look up scull n bones its a faternity that a lot of gov.people are in.its a cult.very very evil

  9. I am right with Big Jon on this subject, and almost with Sink...

Where I disagree with her is, we would definitely be better off without the UN, but they can't run without our finances.  AS the $ drops in value around the world market.  We're in trouble people, that is America is.  We're owned by China and India.  The United States should never have allowed any other country to own, or have an interest in, these United States of America.  BUT I trailed off the subject somewhat and started chasing rabbits.

Back to the UN.  I do not like the fact they have authority over some parts of our military.  I don't like the fact that we are to give money to poorer countries and they have slipped a bill in there that is trying to take away small guns from people.   Shame on this United States for allowing our rights and what should be privileges to be stripped by a body of nations that we, in reality, are enemies with.

That's my opinion - and would be the opinion of a lot more if they gave a care and listened up!

  10. The UN is toothless and full of hangers on that keep turning the other cheek.

  11. The United Nations, as it was originally designed. would and could be a great instrument for world peace, except it has been corrupted by allowing the veto power of a few nations, such as the United States, and the use of such for political gain.

If the veto was removed and the UN allowed to function as designed, it would be fine.

  12. the u.n. is a joke they think you can bargain with terrorist nations

  13. Although the global community needs an organization like the United Nations to provide a global forum for world leaders to discuss and solve international problems, the current United Nations is flawed, rife with corruption, and needs significant reform in order to become an asset to to the world. Unfortuantly, the United Nations is not serving its original purpose for several significant reasons;

    1. The UN is full of corruption. From the Iraq Oil for food program of the 90s, started out as a program to provide humanitarian aid, but turned into a kickback account for Saddam Hussein. To the fact that investigations have shown the kofi Annan accepted numerous bribes from corrupt organizations and leaders. The united nations has become an arena for lies and deceit.

2.UN peacekeepers are supposed to protect the nations their assigned to, but instead have been perpatrating s*x crimes the world over. From Thailand to Uganda , the peacekeepers abuse their power. Plus their purpose is superflous considering the fact they can't shoot unless shot upon.

    3. The only credibility the UN has is the fact that the US is the main member, and financial contributor. The perm 5 control the entire organization and the smaller nations basically have to succumb to the decisions of the superpowers.

    4. The UN supports terrorism. In Israel there is a UN peacekeeping base that was started to protect civilians, and stop Hezbollah. Unfortunatly 15 feet away is a hezbollah camp that is used for training. Instead of shutting down the hezbollah camp, the peacekeepers actually train and hang out with the terrorist they were sworn to stop.

    5. The Un is supposed to stop human rights abuses like genocide and terrorism, but the Un does not even have an official defenition for genocide or terrorism. How can you combat these problems when you can' t even define them? Not to mention the fact that the Human Rights Council, an group in the UN, decided to kick the US off the council, and gave the US' s seat to Sudan. A nation who is known world over for its human rights abuses in Darfur

the UN is needed in the world, but with all the corruption and abuses it needs excessive reform. Or it could be eliminated. Let's just hope Ban Ki-moon can turn the UN around for the better. Because by the looks of things, the UN is becoming nothing more than an arena for corruption.

  14. The United Nations is a joke and a waste of U. S. taxpayers money and real estate!  The U. N. building in Manhattan would be of better use as a home for illegals ... oh - I forgot - it already IS!

The loss of the U.N. would have absolutely no effect on the world, because it has no effect on the world as it is!  Wait a minute - the world would probably improve somewhat, since the U. N. causes things to get worse instead of better.  Take Uganda for example.  The U. N. "peacekeepers" assigned to that area stood by and did nothing while genocide was taking place and in some cases, were discovered to have taken part in the murders!!!  How's that for worse than useless?

And the U. S. is supposed to surrender our sovereignty to a body of terrorists like the U. N.?  I believe that there are over 300 member nations in the U. N. and over 90% of them DO NOT have the interests of the U. S. in mind when they vote.

I suggest that the U. S. get OUT OF the U. N. and make them relocate somewhere else where they might be more appreciated.  Someplace like Havanna?  Maybe Tehran?  How's about Mogadishu?  Maybe Darfur? ...

  15. UN wastes American tax payers' money, makes a lot  of noise all the time, reaches endless resolution after resolution and never solves  any real world problem.  It should be moved to either middle east or to Africa where there are more urgent issues that need to be dealt with.
