Well this is one field I would suggest you to be careful because there are simply too many pit falls. Believe me 95 percent of the opportunities online are scams. Believe only good companies and reputation. In my opinion two best opportunities are ebay and forex trading. Both are genuine and good opportunities.

business. ebay send payment via 'paypal' account so you also need a paypal

My opinion on your question regarding computer home based businesses is they're good.  I know a lot of people who have their own home based businesses.  Some dealing with the computer/Internet with web sites, and some with and without.  

They are good, if you work and build your business.  They are bad if you don't.  I do know a lot of reliable ones that different people are involved in different industries.  How reliable they are, again would depend on how reliable you are on building a business.  Most businesses have training to help you build your business.  I suggest you take advantages of these trainings and learn the different industries on how to build a succesful business.  

I'm not sure who to refer you over to, as I don't know what your interest are, skills or any of that.  Here's a yahoo blog that someone created to help people find something that would work for them.  Over half a dozen different listings on homebased business opportunities.  If you want some reliable ones, you should look here.
