Just wanted to get other peoples opinion on my situation. I'm 22 married with a 1 year old daughter. I need to do somethin with my life to be able to provide a good life for my family and I'm tired of working dead end jobs that aren't getting me anywhere in life! So the more I've thought about it and the more my wife and I have talked about it seems that the Air Force is a good idea but I want to get other peoples opinion about life in the military with a wife and a baby. My only concern with the military is family seperation; I realize it is part of military life but I guess I'm just trying to figure out if the good out ways the bad.

  1. I think its the greatest thing since sliced bread.  But I'm biased

A lot of the separation depends on what job you get. . . . not counting basic and tech school, I've been "away"  for a total of 4.5 months out of 18 years.  Other people are gone six months out of the year.

  2. i say go for it man, im about to go bak in the army, i have a baby girl on the way and my jop as a cop just doesn't pay, its a funny thing, i make more the 2 Xs what i made in the army but yet i have less money man it sucks and i kick my self in the *** about it a lot. anyway man i say go for it but make sure u pick the right job for u because the wrong job can make u hate ur life in the military, good luck

  3. My opinion is great job!!!! thanks for choosing to serve your country and for choosing to help your family out....good luck my friend

  4. You can either put yourself really into it, push yourself and make something out of your life...or milk it...I have seen it in other branches of the service, except the Marines, and perhaps the Navy Seals...where you can not do that...the military owns you, 24-7-365, and there are some great benefits... good luck, you are paid by taxpayer dollars to defend this country and all the millions of illegal mexicans , too...

  5. My fiance is in the Air Force. We LOVE it. They pay for housing, food, everything... plus you get seperation pay. Being apart sucks but the homecomings are great =) plus there are many ways to keep in touch.

I'll warn you though... the AF is so packed that they have waiting lists to get to boot that are sometimes 8-12 months. average is 7 or 8 months.

you'll always have a job and you'll get paid so i'd say DO IT!

plus they have a spouse education scholarship where they pay for part of your wife's tuition.

  6. You may not be seperated from your family. It depends on what particular job (AFSC) you choose.

I think you should join, I joined the Air Force at 21 and it was one of the best choices of my life. That was 11 years ago.

  7. It really does depend on what your going to do in the Airforce if you want to become a pilot you have to become an officer if you went to college you can go to ots or officer training school other wise you'd have to go to college and join AFROTC or airforce reserve officer training corps or go to the airforce acadamy. learn more at af.mil

  8. Are you gonna work for the  govt or the country? In this time of war, think of your family. How will they feel if you are sent to Iraq and get killed?

  9. the af has a lot of benefits that you can reap once your in. i love my job and the pay is decent for what i do. there are jobs that deploy more than others. once you take the ASVAB and figure out what you qualify for, you can make a more informed decision on what job you want. then ask people in that certain career field whether they like it or not.
