What is your opinion on "novelas" and the people chosen to be in them?

Question

I'm hispanic so of course I watch them from time to time, I don't know if many americans actually ever take the time to channel surf and take a look at them but why do you think the actors are mostly white ones?

As an example these are actotrs of mexican novelas:

Im just using Mexico as an example because this is true for most latin american countries to mostly use the whiter actors. What's your opinion on this?

Good question I was wondering the same thing. Once in a while I will see a black hispanic but only as a housekeeper. I have noticed an increase in darker hispanics on talk shows, but not in a positive light. Even the Mexicans come in multiple complexions but only the fair skinned are in starring roles. I think its because the standard of beauty has been set 100's of years ago and still perpetuated. People have to learn and accept that beauty comes in a variety of shades and hair textures.

Have you heard of "La hija de Jardinero"? They show it in Africa. Great show....I miss it

I believe it's because of how wide western influence has spread. It's just the same as how "the winner writes history". We see the results through imperialism and colonization.

A friend showed our class a magazine with Filipina models and all of them were light skin. Also if you look at Indian actresses, most of them are light skin too. Western influence truly has spread far so it has became the norm.
