  1. I'm still amazed by the fact that you can seperate countries by endless amounts of water (oceans) and yet we still can't get along.  When I was little my mom would put me and my sister in seperate rooms and that seemed to do the trick.  not the case here, I guess due to all our technogoly too.

That being said, I think you do what needs to be done, and I'm entirely grateful for having strong american forces to protect us.

  2. well truly its not cool but it show that one state can dominate like the usa. they have the most up to date weapons. they destroy other conties in war and that says we have and will keep our freedom. so in other words tecnacly i think it should happen.

  3. to get to the point, it hate it. seriously it's just a cruel thing to do and most of it is fighting over silly things like who bomed who im mean come on get over it.

  4. It sucks, but sometimes necesary, and even though I really don't like conflict, I am glad that I have served my country honorably with three deployments to Iraq.  I have seen the best in people and the worst in people, but hopefully the experiences i have, will make me a better person, and hopefully we will find a way to achieve the peace that this world deserves.

  5. War, depending on the context, is too often a necessary evil.  It is to be used when all else fails.  What amazes me about pacifists is that they seem to think that all of our problems can be solved through friendship, caring, and understanding.  While I would love to see our problems solved in this fashion, all too often, there are those who do not care to do this and would sooner kill us than understand us.

Simply put, war is a last ditch piece of diplomacy to be used when the only way that the other party would understand is in a barbaric manner.

  6. It is often a necessary evil which prevents much worse evils.

  7. Peace is a myth.

  8. 100 years ago -- give or take a few years -- there weren't too many countries capable of waging war. These were larger, technological countries with developed industrial capabilities. Most of these countries felt pretty much the same about values and goals --  although they differed in how the goals could and should be reached.

The rest of the  countries merely possessed resources. Some of the "powers" of the time decided that the way to acquire the resources of the less developed countries was simply to take them by force. Back then, the US stepped in to help the smaller countries and under-developed countries defend themselves from the larger countries. People approved.

Today it's different. Since the larger countries can no longer just take over a country for its resources, they have to purchase the resources. In doing so, some very backward and under-developed countries became very wealthy -- more so per capita than the larger countries. Now many of these countries don't have the same values as did the  powers of old. Since they have the wealth, they think they should be treated as equals with the larger, more technological countries.

In an effort to compete with them on their level, they purchase technology and attempt to produce a quasi-industrial infrastructure. But their values are still the same as when they were little fly-specks.

Some of them have become as aggressive as those larger countries were decades before... the countries from whom the US helped protect them. Because they lack the manpower, the technology, and the industrial infrastructure, they see no problem with resorting to terror.

These people do not respond to diplomacy. They simply use it as a buffer, a smoke screen, behind which they plot and scheme the take-over of the world. It's not unlike the cartoon, "Pinky and the Brain," a mouse trying to take over the world.

Again it falls to the US to protect the rest of the world. So many of the other past "powers" haven't gotten the message that these mice don't care about human life. Listen to the rhetoric of the president of Iran. His idea of peaceful coexistence is obliteration of opposition. He doesn't care about "terms." He doesn't care if we all become Muslim. He doesn't care if we throw down our arms. He wants us dead. I've heard from a couple of Iranians that he's ot speaking for the people. Nonetheless, because of his position, to the rest of the world he does represent them. The President of the United States doesn't speak (or act) the most Americans might; but, by virtue of the fact that he is President, to the rest of the world, he certainly does.

Sadly, these backward (but rich) little countries are able to make the media jump through their hoops at will. The media inflames world opinion on the side of the poor (rich), innocent (aggressive) leaders of these backward countries. No matter what we do, it's too much too soon, too little too late, ineffective, overzealous, or wrong for some other reason.

The new enemy has no sense of honor other than to die in combat. He doesn't fight for land or resources, he fights for ideas or simply for power. A thousand years ago, when he wanted power he simply marched a couple of days into the desert with a few of his friends, and, armed with curved swords, attacked his neighbor. When one got tired fighting or was killed, the other declared the victory, took what he wanted and stayed or left as he pleased. Today the neighbor is not two or three days away, he's seconds by missile. And he doesn't live alone in an isolated encampment. He lives with thousands of others who probably disagree with him. The missile doesn't care.

The enemy knows that. The enemy knows that we, in the US, do care. That's why he hides behind those non-combatants. That's why he targets them -- he kills them, blames the US, the media believe him, and so that's the story the world hears. We saw it a little in Korea. We saw it a lot in Vietnam. We didn't have time to see it during Desert Storm, but OIF is getting a lot of it.

You've heard of "the fog of war"? Today it's the media.

War is not the doing of Generals as one poster suggested. War is the concoction of politicians and diplomats, and of a few wild-eyed, insane mice, who think it's a noble idea to kill those who think they're little countries -- albeit with some wealth and resources.

  9. War happens when the matter is serious, diplomacy fails and one nation attempts to force its will on the other.  War is unfortunate but necessary sometimes.

  10. War is an abhorrent disgusting waste of life and property, which as a last resort is necessary to protect your freedoms and those of the innocent.  Sometimes the final act of diplomacy must be carried out.  Historically, The American Civil War, freed slaves, World War II, ask the European Jew or the Machurean Chinese, or and Pacific Islander if War was necessary and I'm sure those that survived the n**i's and the Japenese will tell you yes.  It takes two fighters to have a War, but only one for a Genocide.

  11. the world is better without it. people are killed in wars and money is lost! which in the end makes the economy plummet,

    peace is the best option

    I LOVE WAR!!!!!!!!!!

  13. let's face it, someones always going to be at war. the best thing we can do,  is be on the just and winning side.

"only the dead have seen the end of war."

    plato

  14. Very Vague.

nothing would be solved if it wasn't for it.

  15. Well, as a person who has to deploy to the combat zone and actually fight the war, I would really prefer not to have to do it. The destruction and damage caused by war is absolutely terrible, but this must be weighed by the policy makers to determine if the outcome is worth the effort (proportionality).

All That said, if the national command authority directs the military to go then we will go and accomplish the objectives set before us (within the laws of warfare and rules of engagement).

  16. Necessary at times.  The World will be at War to the end of time.

  17. What is war good for absolutely nothing .
