  1. Well sp ed has seen many changes.  After 29 years in the field I'm not certain we are where we need to be as a nation. I agree that while aides in the classroom are a benefit they do not replace a trained professional and unfortunately thats how the school systems save money. While most kids and parents give it their best effort, some abuse the system or expect teachers to do it all. Much of the funding and quality issue depends on the  state or neighborhood you reside. I see less and less parenting of children.  Some things we as educators cannot fix. Still, I love my job. When you see a child overcome obstacles and feel good about themselves it's priceless!

  2. opinion on what aspect of special education??????

  3. if you mean special ed in schools,it is horrible. The school people are CORRUPT all over the country. All you have to do is a google search to find this out.

  4. I am very opinionated on the subject. I personally do not have any kids that require special education but have seen and gone through the pains with my best friend. I personally feel that special ed can be very beneficial for the individual but it takes a very pushy and concerned parent to make sure that their child is getting the best that the school system and the county can offer. I have realized that being the nice guy does not work and its a shame that you have to basically go all the way to the top to secure the best education for your special needs child. Good Luck in the battle and don't be afraid to scream bloody murder or throw the discrimination card out there if you are not getting results. Its sad but true.

  5. well i think too many kids are "included" for the sake of inclusion. not because they really belong there. and many of them could get along just fine in a regular ed class if they had the trained full time sp. ed teachers there to support them. instead of leaving an untrained regular ed teacher and a couple of poorly trained part time aids to keep them busy.

i appreciate the idea of inclusion. but like most other things in education it's underfunded and poorly implemented.
