  1. You can't control the wind but you can tilt your sails.

  2. I dunno exactly how to answer this too but..

as the word means "love of wisdom", I'd take it as.. by being wiser, we can love better.

  3. I'm not completely sure how to answer your question.  Personally, I am split on the issue.  I love to think about things in depth and analyze situations in a philosophic manner, but then again when you think about something too much, nothing seems too good.

In conclusion, when you analyze something that much, nothing seems too good.  You can't really live when you think that deeply.

You only live once, so don't waste it on the investigation of every idea, losing each moment you could spend experiencing life.

(By writing that, I went against exactly what I was advocating).

Again, I hope this is what you meant.

If not, I at least had fun writing.

    I hope I was helpful.

    Good luck!

  4. it gives you some piece of mind. helps you reason some of the things that are bothersome to you. makes you think for yourself. or rather it helps you to. sometimes i think it would be good if people just didn't think too much. then again it's good to think for yourself every now and then.

  5. "Know Thyself". Which is the first step to understanding. How can we understand anything else if we don't understand ourselves?

  6. Depends on what you want to use it for. Debating? Law school? General search for knowledge, self? Logic for science? I have known quite a few philosophy students over the years, some graduated, some moved to other disciplines. All of them seemed to have ulterior motives in studying philosophy, some used it as a tool to further knowledge, others used it as a weapon. I myself think that philosophy is actually a bunch of  people with way too much leisure time, many madmen and egoists.

  7. That perspective is irrelevant.

  8. I was introduced to philosophy with a skeptical outlook by a brilliant philosophy teach my freshman year of High School. She introduced me to Epicurus, who is one of my life-long favorites. I fell in love with Sartre's ideas for a while, and I have struggled for many years to fathom Kierkegaard unsuccessfully. As Donnie and Marie used to say I'm a little bit Hegelian, I'm a little bit rock 'n roll.

Truth is in the eye of the beholder, morality is better fixed than relative, science is useful but over-loved by the ignorant, and since there is no free will, we live in the best of all possible worlds (appologies to Voltaire.) God is meaner than Scorsese, but funnier too. And the end of the world is when I die, and God put the video that is my life back on his mantle and experiences being someone else. I know I have segued into spirituality, but I don't have a clear divider. The purpose of life is to reproduce, and love and happiness are the opiates of the masses, to keep from actually THINKING about anything.

And Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for not asking "What is the meaning of Life?"

Below is me mocking Yahoo, just ignore it.

"Tip: Be as specific and detailed as you can. Use any personal experience or knowledge you might have."

"You can use research to help support your answer."

"Hmm...it looks like you have a lot of punctuation."

"Oops! It looks like you have 1 misspelling(s)."
