Do you think they are loners or are they simply more motivated to get their work done? I'm curious to see some answers.

  1. I usually eat in my office (it's what I'm doing now); I can take a brief internet break, eat lunch, and skim a few other things.

I don't really socialize with people I work with (I have a cadre of friends outside of work).

  2. i eat in my office i am not a loner or motivated  but i dont like to get involved in the he said she said   things and  i go to work for  a pay check an not to make friends there.

  3. i wouldn't classify them as loners. i enjoy talking with other people i work with but i prefer eating in my cube because i like to have some quite time in the middle of my day when i can shut off my brain and relax a bit. i usually read or window-shop online. of course, i'd rather have a nice quiet space OTHER than my cube to relax but unfortunately my office only has one breakroom.

  4. they are financially sensible and that their work mates may be dullards

i dont see anything wrong with eating at your desk these days

  5. Maybe they don't have time to go out, or they have a lot to do.

  6. Sometimes its to save money and not to go out in the heat-sometimes to do work or stay on that diet. I think it all depends

  7. wow ......... first off im eating right now i rather eat here because at least this is my alone time form all the hectic work that goes around here and eating in the lunch room is just too noisy its kinda nasty too............ and to  top things off i really rather not gather myself with people that all they do is talk about others not what i want to hear

  8. That they have a lot of work to do.

  9. they have a lot of work to do. they may be waiting for a phone call or email which important. they have things to do.

  10. I think they are hungry and want to keep busy at the same time. You sound like you spend too much time overanalyzing people.

  11. I sometimes eat in my cubicle because we don't have a designated "lunch room" here. There is a mall attached to our building, so sometimes I will go sit in the food court, but often it is packed at lunch, making it hard to get a seat. If that's the case, I often have no choice but to sit and eat in my cubicle. I don't do any work over my lunch hour, I'll just eat and read.

  12. While I don't have a cubicle per se, I do commonly eat lunch at my desk by myself.  I have an hour for lunch, which I typically use to support my side antiques business.  So, I generally shop or do my own business paperwork over lunch, then actually eat my lunch at my desk after my official lunch hour.  I'm quite neat and tidy about it, I don't spill, and I don't eat stinky food.  I've been here a couple of years, been doing it pretty much every day, and no one has voiced any concerns.

  13. I'm one of the ones who occasionally eat at my desk (I'm doing so right now).  There are a couple reasons why I'd do so.  I may not be feeling well, or not in the mood to socialize.  I may have had to use my break to run errands and haven't had a chance to eat until after my break was over.  Or I may get hungry before it's break time.

But I work in an office where I don't see too many people outside of my coworkers.  And when there are visitors in the office, they're internal people.  I would think that if you are dealing with customers on a regular basis, it would be quite rude to eat at your desk in front of customers.

  14. I think it depends on the persons mood.  Sometimes I like eating at my desk and not being bothered and sometimes I want to sit with all my co-workers and eat during lunch.  I think it's matter of personality, mood and even in some cases when someone doesn't like their job they tend to stay to them selves a lot.

  15. I used to have to eat at my desk and although it was mainly for the amount of work I had to get done it was also because I was "the Boss" and so not expected to socialize during lunch.  I don't think it is a bad thing to eat at your desk - but I did dislike it when people would enter my office and ask questions when I had a full mouth!

  16. For me it's just a habit - I'm not used to having a lot of time on my hands. Lately, though, I'm eating in my cube because I'm busy answering questions here.

  17. Well, they might be very workaholic in a way as they want to eat and work at the same time, its like they don't want to lose the precious hour of lunch break.

they may also be loners as not going to lunch with their co-workers could mean they don't enjoy socializing.

  18. well i thikn that they are hungry...also, they may be busy and don't have the time to get away from the desk.i ate at my cubicle and so did many folks.the breakroom wasn't big enough adn at lucnh time it filled quickly.plus, i have an issue with eating in front of odd people.but it doens't make you a loner just a busy person.

  19. It's the person's choice. I do it but sometimes because I don't want to eat in our lunchroom or it's too cold to go outside. This week I can't take lunch because I have to cover the phones. It kind of annoys me but the weather hasn't been great and I was able to leave early so I could run to the post office so I got to take a half a lunch. I usually can afford to take a half hour lunch or at least 20 minutes. I'm a dedicated worker. The break reenergizes me. I find that I'm more tired if I don't get a break. The day drags.
