  1. I wouldn't do it with my kids. I mean, kids meet most of their friends in school.

  2. The ones I have met have seemed intelligent, well mannered, and poised. Generally, they seem to be a little sheltered or innocent, but that isn't a bad thing in this day and age, considering how many bad elements there are out there.

  3. I've never met one, but I imagine that they would be quite shy.

  4. I believe that we require teachers to have an education and certification for a reason.

What I have seen as a post secondary educator:

1/3 of the students are well prepared, know how to study, and do well in college.  Their parents get them involved with league sports, scouting, camps, etc, so they have a social network as well.

1/3 have been spoon fed and can't think for themselves - they only know what mom and dad tell them.  They have few social skills and they generally aren't good at team/group work.

1/3 the parents don't teach them a thing - they do the "natural learning methods".  Either because they aren't educated themselves, or don't want to take the time to learn how to teach.

  5. all the homeschooled kids i've met have seemed a lot more educated than their peers. They also seem to have good morals, but poor social skills.

  6. Unless Mom follows a curriculum her healthy child will be educational retarded to their public school friends in knowledge and later in business.

  7. no home school required

    just turn me on 24x7

    hugs!

  8. I think it's great. If I had kids, I would homeschool them so they wouldn't be morons like the public school kids. Not that it's the kids' fault, but the public school system is a disaster. I would want my kid to have the advantage of homeschooling.

I would worry about them missing out on some things though, like team sports and cool science experiments.

  9. I've seen some really great kids come out of it, a friend of mine when I was growing up was home schooled she was always way ahead of me....but to often it's lazy parenting and really horrible for the kids.

Not everyone is qualified to home school.

  10. Depends on how intelligent the parents are.

  11. I see no problem with children being home schooled.  Most tend to do better academically than other children because of the one-on-one capabilities, but tend to suffer socially because of the difficulty to create a diverse social network.  Frankly if I lived in certain parts of the country and could not afford private school I would home school my kids.

I think it is really up to the parents.  I don't see a right or wrong in it personally.

  12. i can certainly understand why some parents would chose that for their children. i have to wonder though if they miss out on certain things though, like participating in sports and such.

  13. They'll have some social issues, but the years of missing out on ridicule, peer pressure and self-esteem crushing in school should even that out.

They'll certainly be more educated than kids who go to public schools, if a bit more naive.

  14. If they are homeschooled by an intelligent adult who is capable of giving them a good education, which includes socialization on their own terms as well in structured environments, then good for them. The American education system is indeed ****. However, it seems many children are homeschooled by ill-educated religious fanatics who are not interested in really educating their children, but rather indoctrinating them without any outside interference.

  15. I'm indifferent. I will say though that when I was in college there was a boy there that was homeschooled. He didn't know a lot of common things the rest of us did (like what a thesis statement was, when several key wars were, etc). I think if someone is going to homeschool their kids they need to make sure they'll be able to handle a school/education load equal to that of public schooled kids.

Ideally, they should be taught the same as public school kids.
