  1. well it's a difficult one but I've got to say I support Georgia. Many people forget, it was Georgia who attacked first, and it was foolish of them however Russia's response was massively out of proportion. There was no need for them to bomb so near the capital, when Georgia posed no threat to their capital and obviously didn't have the resources ad presence to threaten a large Russian settlement. It is time Russia submitted defeat and released all break away nations from Russia influences and stay out of their affairs. Otherwise Russia in the long term will suffer. And if it came to war, Russia would be inevitably crushed by Western Europe with Britain and America having the 1st and 3rd largest nuclear stockpiles in the world. Russia owns i's recent economic expansion to the west and it shows us no favor. Otherwise terrorist attacks will continue like a few years ago when rebels fighting for the independence of a region, held hundreds of children captive in a school. Sure russia can crush georgia, but not it's people, and an empire or nation no matter how strong and large cannot defeat the people in guerrilla warfare as we have learnt in Iraq.

Russia should accept it is no longer he soviet UNION, and that russia must release all states that the soviet war machine enslaved. They are no longer a prominent world power, for the prominent world powers today ave advanced to having a large network off ales such as NATO with America and the European union and the united nations. Russia in it's ignorance fails to see it will loose.

And yes Russia also created a cold war alliance device as did America with NATO, there's is known as the Shanghai cooperation organization and has fallen apart of the past decade, and the only country that matters in the alliance is china but still the west and America still have staggeringly more political, military and economical power than bot china and Russia put together. Russia has recently conceded to a umber of the west's demands showing the west as the power and this is unlikely to become and second cold war, as Russia lacks the economic an military power.

  2. There is not correct position; we're fvcked. I see it as Cold War II

  3. My position is this. Even though Georgia attacked and bombed South Ossetia's capital, I do not believe Russia had the right to intervene as it is Georgia's sovereignty. I mean, Russia single-handedly invaded a country. What did they say to cover up? "We were protecting our citizens." Those rebel states hold both dual citizenship with Russia AND Georgia, so therefore, Russia is making up excuses..really bad ones, too.

Regardless, I believe it is quite possible for a new Cold War to start, especially with Russia's SCO and our country's NATO.

  4. russia attacked georgia. they are trying to gain more land and blame others for what is happenin in there country. its hitler all over again man. we need to stop the violents. peace

  5. Georgia is not a trading partner of the U.S., nor do they have a strategic location.  We have no National Interest in them.

We should let the European Union handle this one and keep our troops and money for someplace that is in our national interest.

Charity, as the holder of 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Arcoms with V devices, I well remember what it is like to defend Democracy.  Too bad you are willing to throw away soldiers lives needlessly.

  6. Russia has just as much right to be in Georgia as we do in Iraq.

To all the people that think Russia over reacted even though Georgia attacked first.  It's amazing how the same people that condemn Russia, including our own government, turns a blind eye and ignores the fact that Israel bombed and killed about 1200 innocent Lebanese civilians, hundreds of miles from the action when they had two soldiers kidnapped by Hezbola, and cost millions of dollars in damage to the lebanese infastructure. There was no war in or near Beurut, so why the attack, and why no cry of "foul" in that case, yet you condemn the Russians.

  7. Quite simply, Russia attacked and killed innocent Georgians and they are trying to re-create the USSR.  Russia is just trying to blame these murders and their lawlessness on others! And they want to attack Poland and the Ukraine next. Sadly US liberals have bought into this rhetoric - hook, line and sinker!

    Peace

  8. The Readers Digest condensed version is this: In the Cold War the Soviet Union had the countries of the Warsaw Pact as a buffer. The 'New' Russian Federation lost those countries to NATO and now has a new buffer which are its former eastern SSRs and Georgia is one of them. The US was WRONG to encourage Georgia, doubly WRONG not to support them. The message that has been sent is the same one that was sent in '56 when the Hungarians revolted: The US does not look kindly toward nations bordering the Sov....er...Russian Federation that are not friendly with the Russian Federation.

  9. why Georgia attacked to Russia ?

    there was no reason.

  10. The Russians need to pull out and allow peacekeepers who really are neutral to replace them.

  11. Russian response was clearly inappropriate . . . I'm assuming they found a former soviet territory with a week military to invade for payback for Serbia . . . and now the Russians are threatening to bomb the Ukraine, Poland, the former Czech Republic and Turkey . . . oh yeah, and they also think the U.S. started the war and we have been sending them poisoned chickens . . . Clearly the Russians have lost their collective minds.
