Question:

What is your reaction to hearing that Roland Emmerich is making a movie called "2012"?

Roland Emmerich, movie maker responsible for such sci-fi silliness as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow etc is threatening to make a movie that capitalizes on the current hysteria about our alleged impending doom in 2012. How do you feel about this?

Personally I am terrified about just how many people I will have to convince that there is NOTHING to these "predictions"...

  1. The "Jerry Springer" crowd PLUS the "American IDLE" crowd will be very excited..... and no I did not misspell "American Idle". !!!!!!

  2. Perhaps it will flop in the theater?

How much value would it have as a DVD in 2013?

But perhaps that would be the kiss of death. I mean, was Earth invaded by giant alien ships (that could be defeated by a simple computer virus)? Wasn't the description of "The day after tomorrow" essentially ridiculed by anyone with a bit of meteorological savvy?

Maybe lots of people will say: "Oh, Emmerich will make a movie about 2012, therefore all that 2012 garbage is only a ploy to make advertisement for a second rate movie." Well, at least, that is what I will say from now on.

    "Any truth about 2012?"

"No, it is only an advertising campain for a bad movie."

  3. There's been so many movies out there having to do with the distruction of the Earth....some of them were ok...others...not so much.

I actually enjoyed the movie Independence Day....it was very entertaining.

I suppose that a movie that deals with 2012....will either be entertaining...or it won't.

Those who actually relate movies with real life have some serious issues....and seem to forget the pure entertainment factor.

I don't really believe that this movie will have any more of a "hysteria" factor...than any of the other dooms day movies.

People will either choose to believe it's real or they won't...just like all the other movies.

I still believe that there's more people out there with enough of a level of common sense to know better...than there is of people who lack that particular sense.

I wouldn't worry too much Angela,..there's more of us...than there are of them.

Let those paranoid people grow old quicker with nonsensical worry...because...you could sit there and try to convince them til you're blue in the face...and...even after all of that...they will still have some small element of doubt....not all!...but...some.

Me?...I still always look for the entertainment value..so...if and when this movie comes out....if the previews look half decent.....I just may tune in....and be entertained.

  4. My opinion on this is just like my opinion about Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow -- this (Day After) was the source for a couple of the great shots Al Gore used in his movie {without attribution), probably the only redeeming value of either of them, and I suspect 2012 would be more of the same genre.  In summary, it deserves a hearty "Ho Hum".

The same kind of folks who believe in this stuff also invest in Lottery tickets (Lotto is a tax on people who can't do math).

I agree trying to convince people there is nothing to these so-called predictions is a big challenge.

  5. I'm gonna party like it's Thanksgiving 2012!

  6. Opens in 2013?

  7. Finally, someone is putting it into its proper place. Science FICTION.

It may make answering the questions easier, such as..."It is as accurate as War of the Worlds" or Men in Black. But then again, I dont know how many people still believe the Di Vinci Code is historically accurate...  : P

  8. After seeing such lousy movies like Godzilla and Day After Tomorrow, and heard 10,000 BC was really bad, I am not going to see that movie.

  9. Why not ? the Americans will lap it up :-)

  10. When I was a kid my dad told me about the incident with The War of the Worlds radio play.  I thought it was stupid people would fall for that stuff.  The excuse I heard was that it was during "Cold War tensions" and stuff like that.  Here we are with no cold war an masses of people are still falling for stuff like that. Personally, I still get mad when parents take their little kids to see "Santa."  It's like our whole stupid culture is dependent on lies and with only truth and fact we'd have absolutely nothing left.  Isn't this a very shallow existance?

  11. I'm all for it.  Of course I realize its utter and complete hokum, but my scientific standards for movies aren't as high as they should be.  I'm willing to ignore logic and science if the explosions are very large and the disasters very graphic.  Afterwards I'll bemoan the scientific inaccuracies and American Stupidity, but while I'm watching I can usually suspend disbelief.
