oldest known human fossil found in Europe.

MADRID, Spain - A small piece of jawbone unearthed in a cave in Spain is the oldest known fossil of a human ancestor in Europe and suggests that people lived on the continent much earlier than previously believed, scientists say.

The researchers said the fossil found last year at Atapuerca in northern Spain, along with stone tools and animal bones, is up to 1.3 million years old. That would be 500,000 years older than remains from a 1997 find that prompted the naming of a new species: Homo antecessor, or Pioneer Man, possibly a common ancestor to Neanderthals and modern humans.

this is only a piece of the info. but i think its pretty cool..

  1. A small piece of a jawbone? That's it? Are they going to construct an entire person out of it like they did with Nebraska Man?

Also, how did they get the 1.3 million years? There are no reliable dating methods. The ones around are based on pure assumptions.

  2. It makes you kinda wonder about all those fossils that we haven't found...YET!

  3. ohhh boy.  now how about looking for a cure to cancer next?

  4. ^^It's pretty interesting^^

  5. The scientific opinions concerning the heritage of mankind are certainly wrong, esp. the ancestors are underestimated. My suspicions: men and dino's lived together, our ancestors had a higher culture than known up to now, Africa may not be the source. For instance: in a cave in Germany several sculptures were found which are 40.000 years old and have a high standard in handicraft and art. Astonishing? No.
