My son is 14 and is on a youth baseball team, he is a catcher, and during practice catchers are only required to wear a catchers mask while catching, I would like him to wear all the protective equipment he can, but he says he doesnt need it because it is just practice. What areas should he be worried about getting hurt in particular while catching without protection?

Right now, since the heat all he wears is pants and a tshirt. to practice, he says its too hot for undies.

  1. since he is a boy he should deffinately have a cup on and if not a cup at least a tight gurdle and the face mast because if he gets caught in the face he will be in a lot of pain but beside that he should be fine

  2. hahahaaa kids r so funny... free ballin'  while playin baseball...sounds a bit painful.. well he'll learn if he watches americas funniest home videos!!!

  3. Well I'd make him protect down stairs and wear a helmet.  If the coach doesn't inforce that, then I'd be having a word with him/her.

  4. What area do YOU think needs protection from a baseball coming at you at 70 mph?

  5. ask him what he is going to do when a ball hits him in the testicles!!!

  6. I've found that with parenting, you have to let the child make his or her own decision. Give your input, that you really think it's a better idea for him to wear all the protective pieces, but let him make his own choice.  Talk to the coach to see if maybe he/she could tell him that he really needs to wear more equipment so that he won't get hurt.  Personally, I think that he should wear everything possible, a woman's child I know has gotten badly injured, to the point that she cannot play the sport anymore, because she wasn't wearing correct gear.  Plus, if your son practices with the gear, then in games he will be able to move around more easily in it.

  7. I think I would want my child protecting his head, chest.. and yes, privates. It wasn't be a week ago here in Kentucky that a child was hit in the chest with a bat accidentally.. it caused the child's heartbeat to skip a beat, and killed the poor girl. Not trying to scare you but anything can happen, even when you least expect it. Him being a catcher, he's right were he could be hit with a bat, or even a ball. The wrong hit, could be his last hit.  You're wise to be concerned for your boy. More parents should be as cautious as you.

  8. He doesn't wear underwear?

    awkward.

and i think an athletic cup is, um, needed.

  9. Shouldn't he protect his balls from, eh...balls?

  10. LMAO>> OMG....... your a worried mother.. come one, he a boy.

but he should be careful for his Private parts, so they dont get hit with the ball

  11. Well let him be! I understand your a mother and you want your kids to be protected, when I have kids I don't even want them in sports! But sometimes that's all you can do is just leave it alone, especially since he is already 14, I know he's still young but if he gets hurt he will learn and decide to protect himself, but he has atleast the mask so it shouldn't be too bad,

  12. If he doesnt wanta be in pain, he needs to put on a cup............and wearin undies is always goooood
