Will racism ever go away? Is the racism in the USA worse then other parts of the world?

I have 4 children and am trying so hard to teach them right, so they act correct. Racism is not tollerated in our house! I want it to disappear. Is that realistic? I saw this movie "Crash" and it had such an impact on me. Please give me you take on racism!

  1. Here is something you can explain to your kinds. race is something is is used to divide groups of people into catagories based on the outside features (what they look like). But, there is no biological reason so race, but it has a huge mental, social, cultural and political meaning. It is part of what we have as a culture and society and what makes us different from each other and other people.

Racism is the idology used to justify the ranking of races (who is better then whom). Many people who follow an idology will provide "scientific" background to make their side seem truthful.

In all facts, racism is a lost cause and has no meaning to exist anymore. People must understand that they are all the same and though certain races may have a different culture, political or social background that you do not like, it is not the "race" that you don't like but the person.

And its ok not to like people, but there is no justification to not like people based on what they look like.

it is interesting to see how people are programed to think racially. White girls get white dolls, people move to certian neighborhoods, and marry only those who match the same characteristics as they do.

Alot of damage has been done to people over race and racism, if you want to show the extent of why it doesnt make sense show your children some History: The Holocaust, Chinese exclusion from California, Slavery from the Southern states, "American History X," "30 days" and have them explain to you what is happening and discover just exactly why you want them to act correctly around others.

Getting them to understand is the first step.

  2. racism = ignorance. Period

  3. I think racism is rediculous. Someones race shouldnt make a difference. Although sometimes its not completely fair because there are allowed to be all black schools but not all white schools. Everybody should just be able to get along no matter what.

  4. i hate negative people

  5. Racism is both serious and a sensitive issue, especially to the objects of it. It could be as simple as the wrong word or phase, a look or a response. Some people mean no harm, but do great harm. When you do something harmless, just apologize and keep going. You know what's in your heart, just learn from your mistake.

  6. I think that judging people on account of their race is WRONG. God created everyone the same. Why people cant see that idk but theaching you children that racism is wrong is very smart and I hope it sticks with them through life.

  7. There are no races, only the human race.  Children aren't born with racism, it's a conditioned, learned behavior.  It will probably never really go away until people learn that attacking someone for being born different (in any way) is unacceptable.  I would say racism is probably worse in countries where they have (had) genocide going on (Former Yugoslavian Republics, many nations in Africa).

  8. I think racism will never go away. No matter how many people try to do the right thing, its there and not something thats going to disappear. Its great that you are teaching your kids the right thing, thats the most important thing.

Sometimes I feel I am facing racism in an indirect manner as well. I say that, cos I am job hunting and it seems my color and race play a part in it (I am asian). Maybe its my imagination, but thats how I feel.

Even if you look at the elections, don't you see racism being a part of it. People want you to vote for someone because of color, thats racism too to a certain extent.

Yes, crash was a great movie. Hope more people watch the movie and try to understand that no matter what color or race we are, we are all human.

  9. Eventually we'll all look the same like the animals. It will take time, but when we do-racisim will stop and we'll move on and only have sexisim and agisism. Then we'll paint spots on our bodies and those with more than one spot will be the cooler people. Oh wait that's Dr. Suess.

  10. uh well there's a chance that it will not be as big as it is now

i mean look at where we were hundreds of years ago,

    racists were EVERYWHERE

but i mean there are still people apart of the KKK, i don't think

it will ever completely go away, there will always be those horrible

people who are racist, but as we get more advanced i think more

people will be against racism and come to their senses

  11. it'll never go away just like war.

  12. The biggest problem I have with racism is that it is mostly blamed on the white male American. I have seen more racism perpetrated by black Americans than any white friend I grew up with. I am tired of being responsible for other peoples feelings and perspectives. I work at a company that promotes affirmative action and other hiring practices and no black people even apply for the positions, yet they are all hanging on the corners and porches doing nothing or selling crack, yet whitey is keeping them down. By the way, it's not the color of their skin that has a lot of people hating them, it's their over all attitude and lack of consideration.
