Specifically, I am interested in its relation to anarchism, syndicalism and socialism. Were the actions of revolutionaries virtuous? Why or why not?

  1. The Rebels won which brought a dictator (Francisco Franko) to power.  Germany used the war as a rehearsal for many of the blitzkrieg tactics it later used in the war in Europe.  One examble is the spanish town of Guernica which was the scene of the Bombing by the Condor Legion of n**i Germany's Luftwaffe. The Germans were attacking to support the efforts of Francisco Franco to overthrow the Basque Government and the Spanish Republican government. The town was devastated.

  2. CM is absolutely correct.  I think it's interesting that Hitler was brought to power by the conservatives in Germany who falsely believed they could control him.  Hitler then befriended communism and socialism (Stalin and Franco) only to later turn around and stab Stalin in the back.  It (the Spanish Civil War) was his proving ground for tanks, the Blitz, the Stuka and the Bf-109 Messerschmitt.
