I'm curious about what you think.

One day, a recently graduated student was on collegehumor.com, and stumbled on videos of graduation speeches he realize were the exact same ones as two given during the Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremonies at his high school. He created a Facebook group, initially poking fun at the plagiarism.

He was warned by a classmate that this would be big news, and it would spiral out of control and ruin the image of the two students who plagiarized speeches, one of whom was the student body president. Both excellent students and well liked people.

First, students voiced their opinions on the FB group wall. Some were disappointed, others were apathetic, and others were hostile, insulting other posters. The media picks up on the story, starting with the regional newspaper, then the local newspaper. The local newspaper article creates a firestorm, and members of the community have a giant debate with over a hundred comments.

Was the whistle blowing ethical?

  1. The students took the credit for something they did not write, I think it is perfectly acceptable that they were found out and humilated.

They broke the rules, and they got caught, totally ethical.
