Don't go to the movies...That'll just create awkward silence. And the point of a date is to get to know the other person better. For a first date, go to a coffee place like Starbucks. It's quiet enough, relaxed enough and not too formal, yet not to casual like McDonald's. They have comfy chairs to relax in too.

usually dinner. I went out to a pizza place my last first date and that was 7 years ago now :)

I wholeheartedly agree with One Way - no movies!  Men always want to take you to a movie, perhaps it's easier for them than actually talking but that's the whole point for the date, isn't it?  To talk and get to know one another?  Dinner is great or anything that allows you to talk and see if you're compatible with the other person!
