  1. I use CFL light bulbs throughout my home.  I have all my small appliances and computer on power strips so that when not in use I simply turn off the power strip so they are not drawing electricity.  If you have a flat panel plasma TV make sure it is on  a power strip also as they draw a lot of power even when they are not on.

Cell phone chargers should not be left plugged in as they draw almost as much power when not in use as when you are charging your phones.

I keep my thermostat set to 79 in the summer and 72 in the winter.

Run your dishwasher only when full and open the door for drying instead of using the heat dry or use air dry.

Do laundry when you have a full load.

Use ceiling fans to help cool your home.

Keep the lights off as much as possible and let the natural light in instead.

I have taught my kids not to stand with the refrigerator open.

I Cook in crock pots and electric skillets as much as possible as they use less electricity than the stove and oven.

  2. any and all of the above.

ANYTHING that cuts your electric bill or gas bill is good for yourself and the environment.

  3. I use natural sunlight when available.

I open windows to let the mornign or evening air in.

My thermostat is set at 80 in the summer, 68 in the winter.

I have drapes to keep the heat in or out as needed.

As I have needed to replace appliances, I purchased energy star.

Have CFL's in most fixtures, I am in the process of changing some lights so I can use fewer bulbs.

I have all electronics plugged into powerstrips with switches so I can stop standby energy use.

I unplug all chargers when not in use.

Planted trees to shade the south side of the house.

Only use washers when I have a full load

    Line dry clothes

I recently installed a solar system.

  4. I don't use the air-conditioner, electric fan, lights when I don't need it.  If I could tolerate the heat, then I won't use the fan.  :)

God bless you and take care!

  6. I put on a jumper not the oil system.

My woman and I shower or bath together, more fun and you save water. I eat at mates houses.

  7. If you have the time, when you wash your clothes, hang them outside to dry if weather is ok.

As others said, turn off everything you don't use. Use energy efficent appliances. Try keeping your fridge clean and not too crowded so it can work better.

Live in a small home with reasonable space for you, if you don't need a McMansion, there's not reason to buy one.

You can also use a hammock to sleep if it's too hot and you can't stand the bed. I know it sounds funny, but that is how many people do it in very tropical areas where they can't affor the a/c, they open windows or try hanging it next to a good air current, they add a mosquito screen or protection to avoid getting bitten if you live in a place where it's too hot and too humid. You will forget about sleeping in a very hot bed eventually.  Try xeriscaping or explore new ways to have a home landscape with native plants.  Use a reasonable amount of water for your plants, water them in the mornings early, so they can use the water better. Plant a tree to create shadow, so your house gets a bit less hot. Composte! Use less the hair blow drier or the flat iron. be creative about how to comb your hair, don't fight with it. You can make it look pretty with very little.

Get you a bunch of books from the public library, use the public library to read, spend less time watching tv. Keep yourself fit, keep your body in motion, so you can do more activities in a quick pace. Volunteer or visit a park, that will keep you out of the coach, just using energy with no purpose.

Lastly, get informed. Approach your community centers or attend green conferences given by universities, i.e. www.greensummit.net, so you can get to know what's going on.

    I hope that helps!
