I am about to graduate college with a BBA in Finance and have my first interview tommorow for an accontant assistant position.

The question I have is what are some anwers I could say for this question. I was thinking of saying something like I am indecisive sometimes followed up by saying that this is because I like to research every possible option before I make a decision.

Also would it be smart to say one of my weaknesses is that I dont have any real world experience in accounting even though I have taken many accounting classes and I have a good foundation to start with.

I was also going to say that sometimes I am too serius (I have had some former co-workers say this) or is that too personal?

Thanks to whomever answers this question. I really want this job :) even though there are better paying jobs out there since I eventually want to get my CPA (would it be a good thing to say in the interview?) and I have no problem starting out at the bottom of the totem pole.

  1. the question I hate the most is, "what is your weakness?"   Who wants to talk bad about themselves during a job interview.?? that's mine.

  2. loika61 GREAT answers. I have an interview this morning & I was trying to think of a weakness which can be used as a strength. THANKS!

  3. OK... here are a few answers to "Tell me about your weaknesses"

    1) "I really don't like the word "weakness" vs "opportunity" because anything I feel I need to improve on, I do so! To answer the question, I really could learn to balance work/and home life more.  I love to work and past bosses had to kick me out to go home! "  (ohh..employers LOVE this as it leads to "hard worker" thoughts!!)

    2) "I think it's fair to say that everyone could be more organized!  I am very organized at home with my paperwork, but I could be more organized in filing it all!  (interviewer should smile as NO ONE likes to file!)"

    3)  " Some may say I tend to research an issue TOO much, but that is because I am very detailed oriented and I want to ensure it is right"  (just be prepared to provide an example...they may ask)

If the ask "tell me about yourself" just answer with enthusiasm.  I don't use this question personally (lazy question!) but it gives an interviewer a chance to learn your communication style (enthusiastic?  Droll? too much talking?  just plain boring??)

Lastly, be PROUD of the Army National Guard!  It's always a plus to hear of military service and the discipline that comes along with it.  GOOD LUCK!!!  Let us know how it goes!
