  1. he could be depressed from the neuter job. kennel cough can become a chronic thing for some dogs. he should be ok but flare ups with the cough will happen.

  2. Unfortunately.. he prob. did catch it when he got neutered. They normally get over it pretty soon, just let him rest. One of mine got it when she got spayed.

It can be easily spread-so if you have another dog in the house... don't be surprised if they get it too...

  3. My dog has also gotten kennel cough from staying over at the emergency room (fox tail in his nose). It was really annoying because he was already depressed from his first ordeal, and then he had to deal with something else. I called up the emergency room to tell them, but they would not even consider it. Instead they said he could have caught it from somewhere else, or it could be just a throat irritation from the anesthesia tube during surgery. Needless to say I did not return to this place.

I took him to my regular vet who gave him some antibiotics to help heal his kennel cough faster. He was back to his normal self after a couple of days.

Give your guy a hug from me and hope he feels better soon.

  4. Kennel cough is a pretty mild disease that usually goes away on its own in a few days.  Was he actually diagnosed by a vet?  My worst experience was when four younger dogs got it.  I showed the German Shepherd Dog, took her to hospitals with TDI, and trained her in schutzhund and agility so I gave her the shot to prevent it and the elderly male, even though it was a few years from the last shot, still was immune.  One of the four's cough was so bad that my vet put him on a coarse of anti-biotics to prevent a secondary bacterial infection.  Neutering tends to slow them down for a few days as they heal - that could be the problem.

  5. Agreeing with first poster.  If your dog hasn't been in contact with dogs except for his neutering, you may want to call up the vet and explain what happened.  The vet needs to know one of the animals may be harboring kennel cough, and it could have been spread to all the patients they had that day.

  6. My dogs have kennel cough too. My GSD got it at the vet, and passed it to my Golden. Poor things. Your dog probably got it at the vet when he was neutered.
