  1. Zip drives were intended to replace floppy drives but they ended up being just another storage solution for a limited amount of data. The only company that made these drives was Iomega and although the technology was sound, it has since become obsolete and is no longer available for purchase. If you are looking for a storage solution, your best bet in this day and age would be to look into dvd drives and storage media. The drive itself is fairly inexpensive and the media is dirt cheap if you go to the right retailers. If you were to invest in a Zip drive, you would basically be throwing money away as it is, by today's standards, a obsolete technology with plenty of better and smaller replacements.

  2. The Zip drive is a medium-capacity removable disk storage system, introduced by Iomega in late 1994. Originally it had a capacity of 100 MB, but later versions increased this to first 250 MB and then 750 MB.

The format became the most popular of the super-floppy type products but never reached the status of a quasi-standard to replace the 3.5-inch floppy disk. It is no longer in widespread use, having been superseded by flash drive systems as well as rewritable CDs and DVDs. The Zip brand was also used for internal and external CD writers known as Zip-650 or Zip-CD.

  3. In around 1997 there came Zip drives by IOmega with 100 MB Zip Floppy wich can be inserted in to Zip drive.

After That( in 2001 approx) Cd writers went cheap one and then Dvd and Blueray are of very low price and high capacity.

So Zip drive are thing of past tense and no one sell it nor use it.

(I have one fully working lying in box of storage since last 8 years)

  4. It was like a floppy disk, but with more capacity.  They were only made by one company, Iomega.  Nobody uses them anymore, as recordable CDs/DVDs are more standard and will play in just about any computer.

  5. Zip drives are older technology that tried to replace floppy drives. Pretty much a dead tech
