I really mean ISSUES. Race isn't really an issue...nor the personal lives of their running mates.

Why do you support McCain or Obama? I'd like to see your opinion. Thanks.

  1. For a while the race was a toss up. I was heavily leaning McCain because the Democrats tend to raise taxes that would harm my father, a doctor who makes top income but has a hard time living middle class due to old debts.

I am now leaning Obama, due to Palin. I do not like the idea of having a vice president who opposes abortion in the cases of rape, would not fund critical stem cell research, and who views the Iraq war as part of "God's plan." I have no desire to continue the U.S. incursions into the Middle East or to continue a conflict that is beginning to resemble the Crusades - one religious bloc (Christians) against another (Muslim radicals).

Here are some good things about each candidate:

    McCain:

    pro drilling

    war experience

    less corruption

    fight global warming

    Obama:

    opposes war in Iraq

    fight global warming

in favor of working with other governments

    improve U.S. image

  2. Number 1 - I like Obama because he seems to be able to talk to people, all kinds of people, and put them at ease.  He's likable.  As our representative to the rest of the world, I feel he's not going to go off half-cocked and start another major war, and he won't be pissing people off like Bush and make us more of a target for terrorists.

McCain has too much of a big-dog attitude, which I'm afraid will only get us in more trouble with the rest of the world.

Obama also has the same stance as I on the touch stone issues; i.e. abortion (privacy), nuclear power/energy, environment, human rights.

  3. Obama

Because he will cut taxes for Americans making under 250K and remove income tax from retirees making less than 50K. He will implement new alternate energy ideas that will create new jobs and wean us off of our dependency for foreign oil. He will restore our reputation in the world. He will end this war, that is costing this country billions of dollars a month, responsibly, bring home our veterans and make sure they get proper benefits. He will provide free health care for children and the elderly. He will promote scientific research that will help same millions. He will give subsidies to companies that keep jobs in America. He will reduce the national debt. He will use diplomacy and only go to war as a LAST resort. Finally, he respects a woman's right to choose and does NOT support discriminating against g*y Americans.

McCain, on the other hand plans on cutting taxes too...for the rich. He will continue this expensive and unjust war that was based on lies and false intelligence and possibly extend it to Iran. He will continue Bush's failed policies that have led from a healthy economy when Bush took office to what it is now. He will place into the Supreme Court new justices that will try to reverse Roe vs. Wade, which would be unconstitutional. He will promote Republican economic policies that have led to a shrinking of the middle class and increasing income inequality. He will privatize social security and healthcare, risking the retirement of our countries seniors and making the Pharmaceutical companies even richer than they are. He will continue to give subsidies to companies that transfer American jobs overseas. Furthermore, he has anger management problems (which he takes medication for) and is emotionally unstable. We cannot trust him to act with diplomacy when dealing with other countries.

Furthermore, Obama had the wisdom to choose a running mate that could stand alone as president if need be. McCain's choice, on the other hand shows that he is more interested in catering to religious extremists than in doing what is best for America.

TG, thanks. I try to be prepared for this question, as it gets asked a lot and Obama bashers are fond of saying we don't know what he stands for. We do.

I find it interesting how many MEN are pro-lifers. No ovaries, no opinion.

  4. I support McCain because I like him as a leader. I like his ideals and I think that he has what it takes to run this country. He doesn't just say things to make people happy.

Obama promises change but never specifies WHAT change he's talking about. He's a great speaker when he's rehearsed and/ or has a sheet of paper in front of him, otherwise, he stumbles on his words and can't come up with an answer other than to say the word "change" a million times over. He talks in circles about absolutely nothing. He makes promises that he will never be able to keep.

Americans want there cake and eat it too. They want instant gratification, but that's not how the world works. No president can walk into the white house and magically "change" everything in an instant. We need to know what, how, and when a candidate plans to "do". McCain gives us logical explanations, examples, and thoroughly thought out plans and he doesn't need someone to right it down for him. All Obama does is talk.

  5. I support Obama because he wants to make it easier for students to recieve Financial Aid without having to work until 95 to pay it off. I also like his plan for universal children's health care.

  6. My vote for McCain was originally an anti-Obama vote because he's going to force this country into socialism.  Also, Obama's economic plan will end up hurting small businesses which in turn will collapse our economy.

I like Palin's record as a governor and an independent thinker and as a result, she's given this ticket a new meaning.

  7. McCain/Palin:  Keeping taxes low, will appoint conservative justices who will not legislate from the bench

  8. Taxes

    Drilling

    National Security

    McCain/Palin.

    Obama=Pelosi

  9. McCain is an old man, from a different generation, espousing old world views.

Obama is from my generation, with a different world view. Obama will restore credibility of the USA in the eyes of the world. Obama as US President shows the world that Democracy is alive and well in the USA.

  10. Obama, because i believe he will help the country, not hinder it by  offering tax cuts to the rich, which did nothing for us over 8 years. I am prepared to pay tax to help the whole country with health care, schools, police, jobs etc.

  11. I think this election is one of the most exciting and significant in modern times.

I truly believe America can depart from the shame and welcome a new dawn with the election of Obama.

Whilst I truly believe Hilary on the ticket would have been a double edged sword, The American Aristocracy of family dynasties, Clintons and Bush, I'm still not convinced with Biden. That was until Palin, now I'm totally convinced.

I wont vote Mccain because I dont want an extremist in the white house. Someone who opposes Roe V's Wade in the most extreme will never get my vote.

Obama can improve peoples lives in the US like Mccain can not. Mccain stands for more of the same, if you are happy with the way things are and you want more of Bush, Vote Mccain. If you want a an unproven and a potentially harmful representative VP who could realistically take over from Mccain and be our representative on the world stage then Vote Mccain. No republican can ever attack Obama for his lack of experience for the top job meaningfully now.

Obama is adressing the middle classes directly, he recognizes them> His Healthcare policies are a breath of fresh air. I see nothing from the Mccain camp.

The war. People have been sick with the amount of money being poured into the bottomless pit in the middle east, not just money but invaluable lives being lost. Mccain wants this to continue. No thanks.

I never minded Mccain and thought his election wouldn't necessarily mean disaister, but the appointment of Palin has totally and utterly sent me irrevocably to Obama.

Essentially Obama really does represent change and new beginings in so many ways, Mccain represents a regression and I am very uneasy with his ill concieved and dangerous appointment of someone who could be the leader of the free world.

    Lets hope common sense prevails.

  12. Obama is the best choice for people who want and believe he is for...

    better health care

    working to end oil dependency

    better energy research

    ending Iraq and fixing Afghanistan

    pro choice

    g*y rights

    securing America at home

repairing the Worlds poor view of America

    ending nuclear proliferation

  13. I'm voting Obama because...

#1. Protection FROM the religious radicals...and Protection FOR Roe Vs. Wade.

#2. It's time for the pendulum to swing back in favor of the American people.  Big Business and Big Oil have had a heyday for the past eight years; their greed is insatiable, and it is time to stop them from eliminating the middle class.

#3. Our First-World nation should have created a national system of health care decades ago; we can do something about it in this election and rid ourselves of our shame.

  14. It is the actions of McCain's years of services and his words / pledges that help me decide to support John at this point. Obama's thin resume , inconsistent positions and questionable associations give me pause and doubts. I go for the higher probability of a good president.

  15. The reason I am not voting is because I don't trust either one of them.

  16. First of all for me it's the end of the war in Iraq.  Bring our men and women home, they have been fighting Bush's war too long now and are weary and tired and I'm sure they miss their families.  This is why I am voting for Obama.  Hopefully he can prove he is more fiscally responsible than this current jackhole by once again balancing the budget and reducing the trillion dollar deficit. He says he can do this not by raising taxes but by going through the federal line by line and eliminating programs that no longer work.  Now there's change we can believe in!

  17. Obama is for socialist healthcare and he's pro-choice...so that is why I'm voting against him.

    McCain/Palin closely match my beliefs.

Nice copy and paste Sophie...and wow...I just read that! Unbelievable the bull you are spewing here.

Socialism is the first step towards Communism...ask Karl Marx. Personally I like Democracy. In the Communist Manifesto Marx describes Socialism as the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.

I'm a pro-lifer and it has nothing to do with me being male...if you want me to explain that I'd be happy to, but Yahoo doesn't allow me enough space on here to do that. My email is listed

  18. Healthcare.  I had cancer two years ago and was fortunate to have a medical plan to cover the costs.  But, there are too many Americans who are going bankrupt and/or losing their homes to pay for medical bills.  This is not the American way.  Health care is a top priority for Obama.  McCain has not even made it an issue.

The war.  I'm tired of picking up the newspaper and hearing another one of our neighbors died in Iraq.  McCain only knows war.  Obama will repair our image oversees and show the world that we are no longer the bully that Bush created.

Veterans benefits.  I was appalled to hear that McCain voted against increasing the funds for veterans to attend college.  His reason:  then they won't reenlist.  That was a despicable thing to do.  He wants  them to fight for this war he so believes in, but does not want to reward them for risking their lives for their country.  Not sure how anyone could vote for him if they knew this fact!!!!

  19. ALL THE PEOPLE VOTING FOR MCCAIN ARE REDNECKS...IF YOU HAVE NOT NOTICED IN EVERY MCCAIN SPEECH THERE IS MOTHING BUT REDNECKS WITH TRUCKER HATS. OBAMA IS THE WAY TO GO NO SECCOND TAUGHTS. WHO WANTS ANOTHER GEORGE BUSH THAT STARTED THE WAR IN IRAQ FOR NO REASON AND NO PROOF. THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR 9/11 WAS NOT IRAQ IT WAS SUDDAM HUSSEIN AND HIS TERRORIST GROUP. ALSO MCCAIN WANTS TO DO EVERYTHING BUSH DID. DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR AND VOTE FOR BORACK OBAMA WHO CARES IF HES  AFRICAN AMERICAN THAT DONT MEAN NOTHING REMEMBER WHAT THE BIBLES SAYS EVERYONE IS EQUAL.

  20. The economy, what Mccain wants to do is essentially continue the Bush policys, tax cuts for the rich, spend, spend, and more spending not caring about the deficit. The second most important issue to me is the war. Why did we go in the war? Weapons of mass destruction, and there are none, so why are we still there? Iraq has a 80 billion dollar budget surplus while we have a 57 trillion dollar deficit. So why do we keep sending billions over there to rebuild their economy?

  21. The pharmaceutical industry wrote Medicare Part D (no price negotiation, for the love of Mike!) and MBNA wrote the 2005 Bankruptcy law.  Business owns Washington – do you think that’s what Jefferson had in mind?

The Iraq invasion was the single largest blunder in the modern age.  The blame falls directly on this administration and its leader, President Bush.

This country has huge problems that won't be addressed by keeping things the same. The issues are complex, the entrenched interests wield incredible power and only Senator Obama seems to have a chance of changing the direction of the county.  It's a serious time.

  22. I'm voting McCain because he has the qualifications and experience to be President.  I like his all encompassing energy plan that included drilling at home.  I like that he's a military leader and hero.  Great qualifications for a Commander and Chief.  And I like that he doesn't want to raise taxes and that he'll cross party lines to accomplish stuff.

I'm not voting for Obama because I feel he doesn't have the experience to be President.  His stand on live birth abortion makes my skin crawl.  I hate his tax proposals and his energy plan doesn't support drilling at home.  I still have lots of unanswered questions about his associations with Tony Renko, Bill Ayers, and Jeremiah Wright.  Lastly Obama is a far left liberal and doesn't cross party lines for big issues.

  23. I'm leaning toward McCain at this point. Here are the key issues on my mind:

Energy- Obama talks about his plans, but they don't seem realistic. I believe McCain would be a man of action when it comes to this. I really don't buy the assertion that we will be off of foreign oil completely in 10 years.

Taxes- It's fine to want to help out the lower and middle classes, but there are better ways to do it besides 'robbing from the rich to give to the poor'. We're not in 13th century England anymore. If you raise taxes on the rich, they're going to pay us less. They are also going to keep their money in offshore bank accounts like the Kennedys are already doing. I'm not really convinced that Obama has a full understanding of economic principles. That isn't to say he couldn't learn it, though. But right now, his ideas turn me off.

Healthcare- There nothing wrong with wanting to help people out with their medical bills and such, but I'm not so sure that a Universal Healthcare program the way he is talking about is the best answer. What he is proposing is likely to lead to increased national debt (Gov't. has never been known to be an efficient spender). I think we should do more to make private health care more helpful and more affordable. I don't like the idea of the government deciding what medical procedures I can and can not have. If you're going to go Universal, you gotta do it the right way. If anyone was going to manage it the right way, I'd pick Romney. Look what he did for the Winter Olympics. Regardless of his political leanings, I think he has a sharp business mind. I also believe he would be mindful of the things that people would actually need from a health care program.

  24. McCains Energy plan is a lot better.

The other is against Obama I think he will tax everything that moves.

  25. Obama.  I think he will do the most for the economy and the middle class.  I like his ideas on healthcare, education, tax breaks for middle class people, his views on the war(s).  On a personal level, i like how he handles adversity and attacks.

  26. Obama

The state of the economy is the main issue for me this election. I don't think the concept of trickle down economics is working and I feel it's time for a different strategy. Also I believe our image overseas will be greatly repaired with Obama as our next commander in chief.

p.s. McCain has his positives too, I actually think he's decent too, but I feel that more good will come with an Obama presidency.

  27. I'm still undecided, but I can tell you that I don't believe for a second that Obama's tax plan will reduce taxes for 95% of people.

There just aren't enough "rich" people to pay for everything he wants to do without getting more taxes from the "non-rich."

So that's one of many thoughts I'm having about this mess we're in.

  28. Taxes. McCain. Obama will raise taxes indirectly by raising taxes on all business substantially. Not to mention carbon tax, social security tax raises, etc. Also McCain will cut spending. Obama promises to fix every problem on earth including genocide, poverty, and racism. All of that was in his speech at the DNC. He will spend too much money trying unrealistic goals. We are leaving Iraq soon so I'm not worried about that. I wish we would have left when the Iraqi president told us to and if they all killed each other after they told us to leave, it would no longer be our problem. Also, Obama is against weapons development and nuclear weapons being held by the US. He is also in support of states being able to override the constitution and ban handguns.

  29. I am voting for McCain. The two biggest issues why are because of his support for the war in Iraq and the troop surge, and he is pro-life.
