She has a severe to profound hearing loss (75db). She wears bilaterial hearing aids and the teachers use a FM system. She is taking band for the 1st time and will be playing clarinet? Just curious if other children had problems in class, etc?

  1. As a clarinet player myself, to play it successfully one has to hear the tone well. Clarinets are very finicky and the slightest change can throw off your tone and you need to be able to hear it. Sometimes - depending on how much brass there is in the band - it can drown out clarinets - so she'll have trouble hearing herself play, I bet.
