  1. To be taken for a ride is to be fooled or tricked

Take a ride can be a term that you are going to be killed, as the mafia took squealers for a ride

  2. It means you got ripped off or fooled.

  3. To be 'taken for a ride' means that you have been duped, made a fool of, misled

  4. Usually it means someone is tricking you. It is not simply a little trick, there is usually more to it then telling someone you have a dollar in your hand, but you don't. Taking someone for a ride would mean, in my opinion, you tell the person you have a dollar in your hand(but they cannot see it), and if they do the following things then you will give them the dollar.

If I had to take a guess at the origin of the phrase I would guess it has something to do with used car dealers. The ride would be them taking you for a test drive, and during the time they try to sell you the car, no matter how bad it actually is.

  5. Taken for a ride, means that you were used big time. Take a hike or ride? Take a hike means, get lost! Take a ride, means just that, take a ride.

  6. To be taken advantage of, tricked, deceived.

  7. take for a ride, Slang.

    a. to murder, esp. by abducting the victim for that purpose.

    b. to deceive; trick: It was obvious to everyone but me that I was being taken for a ride.
