  1. it could be a security issue. Like my rott always needs a peice of clothing of mine next to him at all times and he is almost 3 years old and has had a duck toy ever since  he was a pup. So its probably a security thing.

Its nothing to worry about just really cute!

  2. i know many adult dogs that love to suck blankets and things....they suck little holes its a riot. i think its just a way they do "chewing"....all dogs enjoy chewing some bones, some sucking blankets some chew balls or sticks ya know.

  3. No, it does not necessarily mean she was weaned early. This is giving the dog comfort, and you will also see this when dogs are chewing on a bone - eyes closed, an expression of relaxed pleasure on their faces.

Regarding the comment made to you concerning breeders, I would disagree with this observation if it refers to registered breeders generally. There are responsible breeders out there and the way to find them is to ask your National Breed Club for a list, and visit them.  Look at how their dogs are housed, and observe at close hand the condition they are in. Ask for proof of testing, (hips, eyes, blood work, and any other test relating to the breed you choose) vaccinations, and if in doubt, contact your national breed club about any details you are uncertain of.

I would also recommend purchasing a dog from a Rescue organisation. There are lots of beautiful dogs in shelters and Rescue organisations who a waiting for some kind person to adopt, and love them.

I hope this information is helpful to you, and don't worry about your dog treating her toy as a pacifier. That is quite normal.

  4. A dog usually develops this nursing behavior when they are taken from mom too early. Usually right after weaning, about 6 weeks, when they still find comfort in nursing.

  5. id think so.

  6. Many dogs do this is as a habitual comfort. It is sometimes a form of OCD. It should not be corrected that can only make it worse. Although it may be from a nursing issues its just as likely that it is not. And there are a WHOLE LOT MORE backyard breeders and puppymills but the only time to buy a dog from a breeder is to do your research and make sure that it is a good breeder. Most people don't know the difference or what to look for.
