  5. big nickel got it all. also, unplug your cell phone charger, they still take up electricity while plugged into socket, turn off your computer at the outlet bar.

  6. I hear light bulbs take ALOT of engergy and its a problem easy to fix.

    By switching to energy efficiant light bulbs, you can save enough energy for 800,000 cars and Rhode Island and another place like NYC or something.

    The numbers will be a bit skewed, since this deals only with electricity, not with natural gas.  But the listing, in order of most use to least use, typically goes something like this:

    1) Heating and/or Cooling your home

    2) Hot water heating (for showers, dishwashing, etc).

    3) Refrigerator (the only big appliances that is typically in use all the time)

    4) Clothes dryer

    5) All other appliances / lights / TV / hair dryer
