I'm organizing a bake sale at my church and there will be 6 groups involved. I was thinking of having each group be responsible for a bake item. I've already thought of the obvious......cookies, cakes and pies. What other things would you expect to see at a bake sale? I was thinking breads, but not everyone has a breadmaker so I was trying to think of some other things.

  1. Tarts and tartlettes

    Easy Lemon Tarts

    2 sheets phyllo dough, thawed

2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

    1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 (8-ounce) container low-fat or nonfat lemon yogurt

    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cut each sheet of phyllo in half, so that you have 4 sheets. Brush 1 sheet with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Repeat with remaining sheets, stacking as you go. Using a sharp knife, divide stack into 8 squares. Place on a cookie sheet and bake for 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.

Stir yogurt and divide in half. Using one half of the yogurt, place equal dollops in the center of 4 of the phyllo squares. Place remaining 4 phyllo squares on top, pressing gently to secure. Garnish with remaining yogurt. Serve immediately.

    Makes 8 servings.

*Or substitute with a jar of lemon curd.

    Apple Walnut Tart

    3 (12-ounce) packages STOUFFER'S® Harvest Apples

    1 cup chopped walnuts, toasted

3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

    1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice

1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs

    1/4 cup finely ground walnuts

3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine, melted

    3 large egg whites

    1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter

    1/4 cup granulated sugar

Thaw escalloped apples in microwave at MEDIUM (50% power) 6 to 7 minutes. Stir together apples, toasted walnuts, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, and apple pie spice. Set aside.

Stir together graham cracker crumbs and next 3 ingredients until blended. Press mixture firmly into an 11-inch tart pan or a 9-inch pieplate.

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes. Set tart crust aside.

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar at high speed with an electric mixer until foamy. Add granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form and sugar dissolves (2 to 4 minutes).

Spoon apple mixture evenly over crust; spread with meringue, sealing to edge of crust.

    Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.

    Makes 1 (11-inch) tart.

Here are just a couple recipes.

    Happy baking and God bless!

  2. What you mentioned is what I usually would think of. Breads like Pumpkin Bread, and Banana Bread, would be easy to make. Perhaps homemade jams and jellies, handmade candy, Rice Crispy Treats, Corn Bread etc.

  3. pie.

  4. Breads would be a good one, along with cinammon rolls. I have seen fudge, different sorts of bars, such as lemon bars, chocolate covered potato chips also. Use your imagination or look thru some cook books or magazines to get some ideas. Caramel popcorn is good and it is easy to make. Most things will sell, if they are presented or wrapped in an attractive manner. good luck with your bake sale!

  5. Cupcakes and brownies are always best-sellers. Also chocolate chip cookies are a must. Carrot cake cupcakes are a very popular item.

Warning: scones and muffins don't move very well.

  6. Cupcakes!  Why don't you have bagels for people who don't like sweets? ( it always amazes me that such people exist!) Oh, If you have to bake them yourself, buttermilk biscuits & butter! Hmmm!

  7. Brownies!!!

You can fill ziploc bags with a variety of candies, and tie a ribbon around it.

    Penut Butter Bars/granola bars (homemade)

    Rice krispy treats

    Chocolate dipped strawberries/fruit

  8. More work then they are worth.

Cookies, popcorn in brown paper lunch bags works well especially with kids.  How about Cinnamon Buns or an Angel food cake

  9. Rice Crispy Treats with different add-ins,

    Small bread loaves-pumpkin,banana-nut, etc,

Cheese cakes, either slices or whole cakes

Hot Cocoa and Coffee is a big hit if they are staying there to eat it or walking thru a show,

    Cinnamon Rolls or Croissants Rolls

Kids love cupcakes with decorations on them-candies

  10. Do some homemade fudge bars and salt water taffy. Cupcakes are a huge win at bake sales. Make mini loaves of pound cakes or banana nut bread. Mini pies to. You can find the mini loaf pans almost anywhere..
