Im looking to maybe join the air force. I know of the main Air force website they list some of the jobs, even though i know there are a hundred more. I had friends in the military but I was just wondering what jobs some people had cause i know there are some jobs people dont really think of or didnt know exist in the military. Even if you werent in it but you had a family member or friend in it.

--EVEN though I know you dont really get to pick where you go but I was just interested in knowing what other jobs are out there.

  1. I work Public Health in the AF.

It is an ok job but I get bored very quickly.  We are the babysitters and counselers of the medical field.  seriously.

  2. I was in the Air Force for 6 years.  I was a Medical Laboratory Specialist.  It was a great job, and you get great training that if needed translates to the civilian job side very well.  This job entails testing specimens (blood, urine, spinal fluid, etc) for certain tests the Physician orders.  You also learn to draw blood, CPR, First Aid, and ofcoarse your Lab Specialty.  Its a long school approx 2 years I think, and its fairly intense.  If you are a motivated person with good intelligence you will do just fine.  The Laboratory Specialist job is to Aid the Physician in diagnosis of their patients.  The nice things about the job is you are always indoors (heat/air conditioning) you get a great job skill, and if you ever get out you have great experience to fall back on.  Another great job in the Air Force is Radiology Tech, or General Medic.  Good luck, and if you Join have fun!  I sure did!

ATTENTION!!!!  Are you sure you cannot pick your job?  I joined the AirForce in 1995 and at that time you could pick your job.  Its called GUARANTEED JOB, most recruiters will not tell you about it, because they want you were they need you.  However, there used to be this possiblity so drill your recruiter about this.  I went in Guaranteed Job, and if you go in say "Open General" or something like that, you more than likely will not get one of the better jobs.   Just a little tip for you I hope everything works out okay for you!

  3. I was an RAF Gunner , basically a ground soldier/commando , such jobs as capurting and holding airfields until aircraft arrived.
