  1. impossible question to answer but i will say some time in the military is something everyone should do.

  2. If you don't want to go millitary, try law enforcement. If you don't want to become a cop, try private security. You get a lot of practical experience. Everyone wants to fight a "rent a cop" I know, I am one.

  3. Since when does one need to have a -different- career to be a martial art instructor?

If you don't already have the experience in a martial art, then why do you want to be an instructor? Either way, most martial arts schools have classes in the evening. If you want to train, any job should cover the expense of training. Cut expenses if you need money to train (do you really need Cinemax and Showtime?). It's about deciding what's important to you.

The two guys that have been the heads at the dojo I was attending were air force. Being stationed around the world has its perks.

If you're looking to run an actual school -- with a unit and classes running, and bills to take care of -- it's pretty much a full time thing. You have to be able to manage the billing, the class times and enrollment, utilities, rent. It's not something you can just do part time (the expenses still accumulate when you're not open). Running an honest school isn't the most lucrative business, but it can be very rewarding in its own right.

  4. The US Army will be the best for martial art instructor. You can take combatives 1 and 2 while in as well as go to the Gracie Academy to get your Army and civilian authorization for teaching martial arts (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the most practicle martial art for real life).

  5. Marines or army,  in some cases progress in martial is a prerequisite for advancement (getting a hire rank) If you go to the marines, you'll study MCMAP (their hand to hand combat technique)

However if you chose Navy, Master-at Arms( almost like an MP) is the rate that give you the best chance to pursue martial arts as most other jobs require more sea time than shore and do deal with physical  confrontations like MA's do
