  1. Marry a wonderful man who will make enough money for you to be a stay at home Mom and get him to call you Dr. Mom.

Or if you are young you can become a Dentist...great pay, and the title.

All in all, when we die we don't take the title with us, and no one will care that you were a Dr.  but your kids will remember how much you loved them.

  2. Any career could have a Dr.

It simply means you have a PhD.   No job can give you a PhD, you have to earn it in college.

Midwives typically do not have the proper degrees to be called Dr.

You can not marry and gain the title either, if your husband is a Dr. you are still a Mrs.

  3. Doctor is limited to MD and PhD....and disc jockeys.

If you don't want to be a psychologist or an MD, then pick an area and get a PhD and start teaching and/or researching.

A title is a lousy reason to choose a career, though.

Hint: MOST lawyers in the US have a doctorate (JD = Juris Doctorate), but never use the honorific "Doctor".  We prefer Mr. or Ms. because we feel Doctor should be reserved for high level educators and people who heal people.

  4. Oh my gosh.

You get the title Dr. from getting a PhD!!!!

  5. You get the title doctor by completing a doctorate, not by having a specific job.  You can be a doctor and a teacher.  Or a doctor and an actor.  It isn't a job.  It is a level of education.

  6. Chiropractors are doctors.

  7. The doctor title comes from a qualification not the actual job.  If you do a PhD at university you will be titled as doctor.  There are heaps of options.  I can't help that think most professions that come with the title doctor require incredible dedication time and effort and wanting the job purely for the title is probably not a good idea.

  8. The only way to be called Doctor is to become a medical doctor (MD) (Which is what an optometrist is, that's a doctor that specializes in eyes), or to get your Ph.D (Doctor of Philosphy) and teach in a university.

Having the title Dr. is really not that special or exciting. I'm an RN and I work in a hospital with tons of doctors. Once you are actually a doctor, the title doesn't matter so much b/c you get used to being called that.

  9. You must earn a doctorate at a university.

  10. Go to school for 8 years and you get the title, PhD. You can have a PhD in anything you choose to study. Of course with a doctorate you make more money. Just a matter of perseverance and determination. 8 years is a lot of school.
