And what exactly do they do, how much do they earn, and what subjects will I need to study the most to work as one?

I know probably History and Biology, anything else?

Are there any similar jobs to that of an anthropologist that I could consider ?

Thank you very much in adavance! :)

I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

  1. i haven't done history or biology and i have an anthropology degree.. it depends on whether you mean social anthropology or physical anthropology! Social Anthropologists should be able to get work in any spheres relating to people especially charity/voluntary work, academic work, social work and social research

  2. if you are at the highschool level, you can take pretty much any subjects you want, as you can major in anthropology with an arts OR science background...

once in university/college, they will tell you the required courses to take for your degree, and for useful electives you could choose things like linguistics, archaeology, primatology, etc...

as for jobs for an anthropologist, I'm not positive... probably stuff to do with cultural relations, maybe government jobs advocating for minorities... I remember hearing that some big companies hire anth'ists to help make sure their workplace environment is as culturally sensitive as possible... there are always museum type jobs, but those lean more towards archaeology...

    good luck =)

  3. I am majoring in Sociology and minoring in Anthropology. If you love evolution, human nature and human culture, and the biological/genetic aspects of the human race, anthro is a great route for you. An architecht in my area majored in anthropology. It can help you in many ways you never imagined it could. Great subject!

  4. My real estate agent has a degree in anthropology.

  5. You should not take anthropology to prepare you for such jobs, because you are going to be told in Anthropology I that man was descended from apes!

"Apes" have long arms and short legs and are nothing like us.  You  get a doctorate and then teach anthropology and write your own textbook!    Teachers don't make much but maybe there will be some book royalties when colleges and universities order your textbook...

If you're looking for some profit from this profession, it would be better to go into "International Business".
