? I am 23 and trying to not waste more time with my life than i already have. I can jump right into the animal care program, however, the vet tech program requires i do a few classes first. I just would like some info on job opportunities with animal care degrees. Thanks!

  1. Hello. My ex-girlfriend was a Vet Tech and her nephew is going to school for a Vet Tech degree. I think an actual Vet Tech degree would be considerably more valuable than an Animal Care degree. All of the Vet Tech degree's are 4-year programs that I have seen. For example, this is my last semester at Mercy College http://mercy.edu, and it has one of the best Vet Tech programs in the country. I know many people that have graduated the program and have great jobs. There is nothing wrong with Animal Care, but ask yourself, "if I were a Vet hiring someone, would I choose a candidate with a Vet Tech degree or an Animal Care degree - all other things being equal"? I think you know the answer. Go Vet Tech, you will have more career options and make much more money in the long run. Good luck!!!
