Hello,

I'm 14, and at the moment i am being streamed in my maths class so in our words, we either get put into the 'dumb' peoples math or the 'smart' peoples class, at the moment sadly it's looking like im going into the dumb class, so with that in mind what ever i want to do when im older i might as well kiss them good bye because i'd need the 'Smart' maths. i wouldnt mind owning a farm business so i sell farm stuff and then franchise it out after i got it up and running a little bit. would that be a reasonable thing to do if im not that up-to-date with my maths marks? or is there anything else i could do with-out high maths scores?

Thanks

Joel

  2. Do not let that get you down.

Why not try to improve your understanding of mathematics and get into a top class? Once you understand the basics of mathematics it is not so difficult really. It is quite an exact science. You follow the rules and go through the steps one at a time to arrive at the appropriate answer.

Many, many years ago, I missed the first term at boarding school in my final two years of high school, as a result of food poisoning. When I attended my first maths class they had all started learning trigonometry in term one, so I was completely confused. When I asked the teacher a question, he abruptly told me that I would just have to do my own catching up as he could not go over all that work just for me.

I was so angry that I was determined to not let it get the better of me. I taught myself from the text book. Before long,  I was often two steps ahead of the teacher when he was writing sums on the board and explaining these to the class while working the problems out. I was also able to point out his mistakes now and again.

Having said all this, you do not need to be an Einstein to get a job, and many 'dropouts' from school and college have become successful business people. The most important thing is to get as much experience as you can in the workplace. No matter what job you do, there are skills that need to be learned. Getting to work on time every day, being able to understand and follow instructions, the ability to meet deadlines and to overcome difficulties. To work as a team member and to assume responsibility and develop leadership skills. All of these are important and are learned on any job. Interest in and enthusiasm for the work you do will take you along the path to success in whatever you do.

I hope that you will not only get into one of those "smart" peoples classes, but end up at the top of that class. Good studying habits will get you there.
