  1. Consider taking a civil service test to be a social worker or human services worker. Search online for the civil service jobsite for your state.

Here's an article on what you can do with a bachelor's degree in sociology: http://www.asanet.org/cs/root/leftnav/ca...

Aha, another website on the topic: http://www.abacon.com/socsite/careers.ht...

Mm, this might get you moving: http://www.jsu.edu/depart/soc/jobs_for_s...

Good luck! New grads DO get hired, so keep trying.

  2. go to nyc.gov

  3. You will not get a job with only a degree. What a shame that your professors didn't tell you that.

What is it that you can*do*? What have you been trained to do with this degree?

You can try entry-level customer service jobs, which can be anything from being a receptionist to working at a box office to staffing a help line. You could focus your job search on just nonprofit organizations, just government offices, or just the corporate sector.

You could also try volunteering in order to gain experience. What is it that you want to do professionally, and could you create a research project related to sociology that would be helpful for a nonprofit organization in doing its work? Develop a proposal and shop it around to nonprofit organizations in your area. Make it clear you are wanting to do this as a volunteer (unpaid). Use this as work experience on your CV, as a "pro bono consultant". Do a great job so that someone from the nonprofit will serve as your reference.

If you need money quickly, sign up with a temp agency for now. Also talk to your university's career center -- they should help you find a job.
